What they claim, is this really a good CPU for gaming?

Its the best CPU for gaming, not a surprise. Its a faster 7700K with 2 more cores.
When Intel launched first ever Core i7, and killed overclocking with Core i 2600K, it was presumed that Intel doesn't care anymore about gaming. So I hope this CPU will be the game changer?
Killed overclocking with the 2600K?
Intel have been the best gaming CPU for over a decade.
The kind of overclocking margin that we happened to see with old Over clocking CPUs was reduced after Core i7. its pretty obvious that, when there is no competition from AMD, they will have the best gaming CPUs
He meant after the legendary i7 2600K I'm sure, and yeah, clocks have barely improved have they?
Only now are we gunna actually start seeing 5ghz actually on air for the lucky ones. Finally.
Intel now know that frequency is their only real edge over AMD for us gamers. If Ryzen did 5ghz we'd be looking at an 8 core i5 right now!

I can't wait for some game benches. Are games taxing the 7700K now that the improvement of a 8700k will be a good upgrade? Or is it instead of a minimum of 200 fps and max of 500, you have 400 and 700?
I can not gauge well since I game at 4K so I am not even sure if my cpu is breaking a sweat.
Yeah, kinda sucks. I have been itching to upgrade....At 4K the only thing that matters is your video card.

I was going to wait and see what Nvidia comes up with next and then decide. Wish AMD could pull a rabbit out of it's hat for their video cards......
The 8700k will not add anything for 4k gaming. Your gpu is the bottleneck for that res. Pretty much any cpu over $200 will have the same performance
This is assuming that not everyone has an unlimited budget smart guy. There are always exceptions, but the CPU hardly ever holds back performance at 4k. Since that is what OP mentioned, that is what I focused on.
So they buy a 8400 for 182$?
At 4K the only thing that matters is your video card.
I plan on doing emulation as well as 4K gaming, so having a very high IPC is ideal.
All the Op mentioned was gaming thus my recommendation. Also emulation is pretty vague, some can be done by the video card these days. I am kind of confused why you quoted me at random as well.

That's not exactly accurate. The CPU is still responsible for a large amount of work especially at highest detail levels. As such, minimum frame rates can suffer greatly which is evidenced by a the Xbox One X and PS4 PRO still struggling to get games beyond 30FPS in some cases despite having reasonably powerful video cards. While 4K is mostly a GPU bottleneck, as GPUs get faster, it won't be. People said the same thing about 1024x768, 1600x1200, 1080P, 1440P, and now 4K. In a year or so, GPUs will launch that will run games like BF1 at 4K ultra above 100FPS. If your CPU can't keep up, than you will get stutter, and frame rate issues.
This isn't an attack on Ryzen. It's a great CPU, and I can't wait to see what AMD comes out with for Ryzen 2.

32% faster? I want to play games like Crysis3, GTA 5 on 4K display
Dude- your signature is a breath of fresh air, compared to the usual latest and greatest.
I had to stop and make sure I was reading it correctly.
It's similar to the pc I cobbled together for my wife.
Yes my Rig is almost dead, I haven't touched it for years. I have threw almost around 8-10K for addiction of Clash of Kings. That addiction is still alive. But in less than 3 months I am going to stop and go back to PC gaming
Wat? Is that a mobile game?
Maybe I'll try it if it's that good...
