Inspiron 9300 thread

I've been keeping my eye out for one the past few days, and Dell appears to have stopped selling the 400MHz 1.6GHz chip in this notebook. I can't fid it without a 533MHz chip anymore.

The bastards...

Dell never offered 400MHz FSB P-M CPUs in the 9300 (i.e. the choices have always been the 730/740/750/760). 533MHz FSB is the whole point of the Sonoma platform.

You must have been looking at the 6000, which did and still does have 400MHz FSB CPU options. :p

"Boxing" = being flown from China or Malaysia to Dell and back to the local distribution center. That usually takes 3-5 days.

You'll probably have your laptop Tuesday or Wednesday.

Does anyone know how to get TV out to work with the inspiron 9300? I have a 6800Go

I installed the dell nvidia drivers, and all I have is the desktop manager instead of the nview display properties. I don't see clone or tv out options anywhere.

The latest forceware drivers refused to install too.

Did you get this working yet? If I recall correctly off the top of my head, its just in the tab where you change the resolution, underneath the drop down box. After you change the dropdown to the secondary display, you can choose "extend my windows destop to this display" or something close to that. If you have the S-video or other connecter connected up, it ought to auto detect it and allow you to choose this setting. If you try this, and are still having problems, let me know and I'll try to get a more detailed explanation to you. Also, the video drivers I'm using, which I believe are newer than the dell ones, I found over at laptopvideo2go Linky

Hope this info helps ya out.

thanks alot engineer - that's a great link.

After a few days of headache I finally figured out the problem - i simply wasn't getting the nview display settings tab at all! I installed a program called tvtools which forced the tv detection. I highly recommend this program as it has alot of tv out settings not available in the drivers themselves (including using tv out while working on your notebook)

BTW: the system is running flawlessly now, esp since getting Dell to give me a replacement samsumg screen.

Anyone try doom3 with their 9300?

I am getting a very strange positional sound issue with this game. Sounds behind me are louder than sounds in front....sometimes sound in front can be so faint I can barely hear it. I do a 180 deg turn in the same spot and the sound gets really loud.

Is this a sound driver issue? Can't seem to find much info on the sigmatel cards.

hey guys,
i got my 9300 about a week ago and i love it, just have a few questions.
when i close the lid, and put it in standby mode, everytime i had open it back up again, the login screen comes up for a second, then the screen goes black for a few seconds, then back to the login screen. at the same time, i ALWAYS lose my internet connection (broadband) for a few seconds when i bring the computer back from standby.

anyone know why?

mine does that too...it only takes a couple seconds to flash black and then come back on..i just assume its normal???

what res and other video settings are u running at

I just ordered a 9300 last night. I was debating between sager's lineup for a long time, then I saw that I get a discount when I order through dell from my employer.

I got a 1.7, 1gb ram, 40gb hd (only gonna have wow on it), and 6800. 1500 bucks. Can't wait till it finally gets here.

Oh yeah, can you download the gfx drivers straight from nvidia? Or do we have to get drivers from dell? That would really suck, because then we have to wait around for dell to release updated drivers.

i just tired running unreal tournament
in both opengl and d3d,
both of them run in slow motion at any resolution

i can't find anything using google, maybe it's just mine

I had problems with Everquest2 running in slow motion, but only when I was running on battery power. I fixed it by going into the Powermizer section of the Nvidia control panel and raising the slider all the way up to max performance. Not sure if you're having issues on ac or battery, but I hope that helps.

You have to get them from dell, or unlocked for the 6800go I got mine from Laptopvideo2go:

Linkage

They are not always the newest out, but usually updated from Dells. I'm sure there are other sites out there that host unlocked drivers so look around and you might find what your lookin for. Also I'm pretty sure its possible to unlock them yourself, but I don't know the process.

---
VladyLama, have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game? Sounds silly but I don't know what would cause that other than a game problem, or software, possibly drivers? I assume you have the latest directx installed? I haven't had any problems with older games personally, been playing command and conquer RA2 quite a bit latley without a problem... Give us some more info and maybe we can help you get to the bottom of it :-D

Engineer, it's happening with two games, so i dont' think it's the software, also i am fully updated on drivers/ dx, and so on. it also happens when running unreal in opengl mode
whitch would have nothing to do with the directx . . . weird

i have not tried the power setting on the video card yet..
the framerates are great, just the slowmo is annoying.

Same thing happened to me once at a lan (well only for Prince of Persia), rebooted, ran RMClock and brought the clockspeed up to full multi and never had the problem again.

YMMV

Hi all,
i am considering this laptop and i noticed someone said they were going to put HL2 on it. does anyone know if you have to buy another copy to do this or can you install HL2 on more than one system as long as you don't try to play them at the same time? Thanks! Oh, and great thread.

I've got my copy of HL2 on 4 computers. And for awhile there, was playing it on several at the same time (LAN party, my friend, my cousin, and my brother, all together...) with one steam login. Go figure? Don't blame me though, if you try it and you steam ID gets banned or something. Bottom line, you can definatley install it on multiple computers.

Yeah, you can definately install it on multiple computers, and since it doesn't need to authenticate with the steam servers for single-player, both pcs could play it at the same time!

And.. the best part, that 6800go is PERFECT for 1920x1200 gaming :)

To unlock them all you need is the proper inf file... I'll see what I can do about hosting it later on

yes it's in my sig because I bought the dell inspiron 9300, with those specs....

unlock them? so these guys take the dell drivers and unlock them? why?

and what does dell do to their systems where the normal drivers realeased from nvidia won't work?

I remember I tried installing drivers from nvidia on my dell d800, and it rendered it useless. I wish dell wouldn't do this, which is the only regret I had to buy from dell, because I have to get dell video drivers :(.

Dell doesn't do anything. NVIDIA doesn't release drivers on their site with mobile GPUs in the inf file. IOW, no mobile GPUs (in Dell, Toshiba, HPaq, IBM, Acer, etc laptops) are supported in drivers you download from www.nvidia.com . But...

It's not even necessary to "unlock" the drivers if you do a manual install (device manager, properties method). I installed the leaked 77.62 driver that only contained desktop NV4x/G70 cards in the inf file just fine. The Go 6800 is recognized property in advanced display properties and the PowerMizer section is enabled by default.

Thanks for that info. I wasn't sure if that would work or not.

I just received my 9300 yesterday. The first thing I did was burn the restore CD and formatted my drive and reinstalled XP. I've downloaded and installed all of the drivers from the Dell website. I'm confused about my CPU speed. CPU-Z says it is 798MHz. I have a 1.6GHz CPU. Everything is correct in the bios, and it shows the current speed is 1.6. But in Windows it shows 798. QuickSet is installed and set to Max Performance. Any ideas?
