LanOC has a one-page quickie review of the In-Win Ironclad case today. The fellas liked this case so much they gave it a 10 out of 10. Here’s a quote from the review:

From the naval-inspired facade to the finished black interior, In-Win has invested some well spent time and effort in the finer details. The occasional touch of the lime green in the fan blades and mounting holes demand attention, while the glow of the 22cm side fan illuninates the proud hardware that can be peered into from nearly any side of the chassis.

It looks nice and things, I like the sturdy "industrial" look, it's unoffensive so can be personalised too. Might be a good basis for something a bit more advanced based if the cost is right.

The mesh would worry me because it usually kills directional airflow. Should have stuck some perspex behind it or something. Plus the top fan layout could have been slightly different and allowed a triple radiator, instead of just a dual. Plus I prefer top holes for LC outs as i've always stuck the radiator on the top so the bottom back holes are usually unused. But thats just me.

Needs some nice interior and general layout shots to see how feasible certains things are, damn the reveiwer!
 
This could be used as an example of how not to do a review. They never put together a system, never took any photos showing the entire unit, and basically copy and pasted the marketing material.
 
I couldn't agree more the worst set of pics I've ever seen. I still dont really know what this case looks like inside or out......

I thought the same thing. These guys sucked at the review.
 
Review criticism aside, I don't like the way the case looks. It's not fugly, but unless I've got a room with an industrial motif, it just wouldn't work. That's one reason I really liked the Antec P18x cases. They're not flashy, and they look nice....oh and they're quiet too.
 
Bad pictures all around. If you can take a full picture of the box it came in, why can't you take it out of the box and take a picture of the case?

To me, the front looks like molded plastic shoved on to cover whatever they are trying to hide underneath...
 
Just goes to prove that sometimes reviews are subjective. Though I would hardly call what they did a review..but yea.

Design wise it isn't terrible, but the fact that it looks like molded plastic on the front is an instant turnoff to me. Couple that with it being made out of steel and no aluminum and there is just no way you could justify it as a $130+ case imo.
 
Step 1) Rip-off the HAF 932 and make it flimsy and ugly
Step 2) Open the box, take some pics and declare it awesome

Sounds like a formula for success to me :rolleyes:
 
You guys are correct when you say most reviews are subjective. Smaller review sites who are lower on the food chain tend to crank out crap reviews like this in order not to piss off a sponsor so that they can continue to get more free stuff in the future.

There is plenty of additional work that could have gone into this review to make it a little more informative. Better pictures, full system installation, noise testing, comparisons against other cases in the same class, ect. There is no way this case is a perfect 10 as I don't think this case ranks up there with the HAF-X or Corsair Obsidian 800D.
 
I doubt anyone is following this thread anymore, but in the event there are I have more to add.

Traditionally I do not like commenting on things I can't back with experience. As such my original comment was kept fairly vague as I wasn't 100% certain I was correct. The quality or lack of in the review did not give me much to work on.

So I took a little trek down to Frys and had a first hand look at the case. To say I was unimpressed would be a huge understatement. It is indeed cheap plastic molding on the front, and to add insult to injury it is poorly done and very flimsy. The only thing "Iron-clad" about this case is the styling which is sadly done with cheap plastic tricks that look more at home on a kids power wheels. The interior of the case is quite badly done for fit and finish, it is full of cut your hands to pieces edges.

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money. For the cost of this case you can land yourself a decent entry level aluminum case that will be far better featured. For the record the Antec lan-boy is not a decent anything. Search newegg and you can find a number of entry level cases in this price range. I suggest Lian-li simply because they are going to have (from personal experience) the best fit and finish at this price point. At the very least they will give you an idea of what are quality features and what you should expect. A quality case should last you a "Minimum" of 5-7 years while looking fairly new unless you just want to change looks. As an example my current case is now 6 years old and you couldn't tell it from a brand new case.
