So im having confusing issues with my PCU, all temp related. First AI booster tells me when under load (few hours of COD4) it is hitting 72C...now i download Core Temp program and they say its more like 60C give or take...but i heard the maximum rated temp it is supposed to get is 66C and shouldnt be hitting over 60C. But mine is when under load. I have tried to go onto Amd.com to find out the maximum temp but the part of their website that says it isnt working. Do any of you guys know? And if my CPU is running to hot, what are ways of cooling it down? a new heatsink and fan ends my warrenty im told btw. If you have any Qs bout my specs or how i have everything set up, ask and il reply right away.
Thanks guys

We do need your specs, at least the motherboard model number and manufacturer and what AMD processor you have. But in general if you are not experiencing odd shutdowns during games etc. you are probably OK. However I am an Intel expert not AMD, but from what I read/know you are correct, mid 60's is the warning zone for temps under load, so you are getting there. If the Arctic freezer Pro AMD version works as well as the Intel version (and there is no reason it would not) I suggest that as a very good buy, around $25, to reduce temps without breaking the bank. If you intend to OC you might want to investigate the big tower heatsinks they run $40 and up and many you have to buy a fan too.

Coretemp measures the internal temp of the CPU and is the more accurate temp. 60C is warm but you do not say for sure if that is under load or not. oh wait, doh, while playing COD4, never mind. A new HS and fan may violate the "fine" print of the warranty (I doubt it would actually violate the warranty but I have not installed and therefore have not read a recent AMD warranty so cannot say for sure. ) but while I most definitely do not endorse attempting to cheat or deceive manufacturers, frankly, there is no way they could tell if you keep the original parts and if installed correctly there is no way improved cooling could hurt the CPU. A lot depends on if you are overclocking the CPU etc. It never hurts to improve the cooling and operating temps of a CPU, overclocking or not. If you are not OCing and the CPU is within its operating temp range and you are not having problems the question becomes "is it worth the money to improve the cooling ? ".

Coretemp, speedfan and everest all use the same method of reading the internal CPU temp, utilities provided by the motherboard manufacturers typically, but not always, use a different less accurate method but to be sure of what is exactly being measured you have to do a bit of digging and so your specs would help with that.

I recommend using this, try it and if it works with your motherboard it clearly shows the core temps, which are what most of us here use to determine if a CPU is too hot, and 'temperatures" which are usually from mounted on the board thermistor temp sensors and are not as accurate in giving an indication of CPU temp.

Also do not overlook the possibility of improving case airflow, for example if you case does not have a bottom front fan installed, spending $8 bucks for one will do wonders for the entire system.

A side panel fan is also excellent for giving the CPU nice cool air and drops temps quite a bit if your side panel has the mounting for one.

One thing i know for sure, is my system is not getting any air in or out, i have baught fans for it and they come in a few days. My idle temp of turning on my PC and after 30 minutes is (PCU) core#0 44C and core#1 40C like i said before, after a few hours of gaming (COD4) it goes up to low 60's By the way, if any of you guys know of any GREAT gaming PC cases for under 100$s, please tell me the link. Thanks
