I recently build my brother a computer with a 955BE and was thinking about purchasing one myself. I want to wait for Sandy Bridge but honestly, I don't think I want to pay for a really expensive motherboard and new tech. How much are the current i5-i7s going to go down in price? Should I just get the 955BE, slap on a Hyper 212 and OC the crap out of it?

Secondly, I was watching the 6870 until the 6950 came out, it looks like there is only a large performance increase when gaming at high resolutions, and I'm only going to game at 1680x1050. So should I just stick with the 6870?

I haven't really been into hardware since I built my last computer two years ago, is 4GB still sufficient, or should I spring for 6?

Thanks in advance!

they wont go down really at all & this depends on your Budget. if you have 1000 or less id stick with AMD honestly

4GB is still enough for todays games
Picking a GPU is going to depend on Budget and what you really want to spend. Id prolly stick with the 6870 honestly

The hyper 212 is a Great Budget cooler.

More than likely the current i5 and i7s will not drop in price judging from Intel's past history. They'll remain the same price in order to make the Sandy Bridge CPUs look like even better buys.

That's a shame about the current i5s. I thought they would drop at least a bit. My budget is low, around $500-$600, but I already have a Case, PSU and a monitor. Perhaps you guys could suggest a build. It would mostly be used for gaming, but I use some adobe software like Dreamweaver if that makes any difference.

Should I get a SSD as well? Are they worth the $100?

Keeping : 1680x1050 HP Monitor, Corsair 550VX, Antec DF-10, DVD Burner.

Need: CPU, MOBO, RAM, HD, HEATSINK

What I was thinking:

955BE combo with Asus EVO mobo
4GB A-Data DDR3-1600 - Is A-Data a good brand, last time I built it was all about G Skill.
6870
Hyper 212
Samsung F3 500GB - I believe I read somewhere in this forum this is the fastest drive besides something like a 10,000rpm?

That's around $600, but if the SSD is worth it I would consider it.

oops lol you said 600 i went over that. The other question is this do you want Micro ATX or do you want full ATX. Crossfire at all?

Micro ATX board are just as good as full atx just no crossfire support. They are around 20-30 dollars cheaper also.

I'm not a big fan of crossfire, especially at my res. Can that board overclock?

That motherboard can OC.

Anything else you want to know?
