I just built a new system last week (spent a week trying to get it to work) The build included a eVGA 9800gtx+ Supper clock. From the time I got Windows XP loaded I had nothing but problems. Constant and random BSOD's and not being able to access the nvidia control panel performance tab.

I returned the card and got a new one from microcenter. Installed the card and the SAME problem's So I thought I would replace the motherboard hell what are the odds of having two defective video cards (or so I thought) here is the thread that I replaced the system board in http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1382529.

Sure enough same issues again after replacing the system board. Now my attention was focused on my ram. I ran memtest for a whole day no errors I ran prim95 for another day no errors. So I was like WTF is wrong with this thing lol.

Well I got my old BFG 8800GTX512 video card out and installed it. Reloaded the whole system (AGAIN FOR THE 7TH TIME) and I'll be damn if the thing is running ROCK SOLID!!! so I start doing some research and it seams that eVGA has some major issues with PSOD/BSOD some people even have to "underclock" there cards to get them to work.

Well I know that people have cards that work perfectly fine and I'm not trying to start some anti eVGA flame war BUT if one person out there finds any of my issues helpful in deciding what brand of video card to buy in the future then I have done my part ;)

I'm going to return this card and get either an ASUS or BFG card.

Now I am off to play with Windows 7 on my old system ROFLMAO

Ohh one more thing (LOL just because I wanna get it off my chest) WTH is with this pay us money and we will rma your card crap??? Do other companies do this as well??? I've never had to rma a video card before (I have always had BFG or ASUS) so I don't know if this is the norm but from my point of view if you buy something and it fails out of the box the company that made it should pay to have it replaced.

AGAIN just IMO :)

What power supply are you running? Also i've never had a problem with any of my eVGA cards as with the majority of people here. And yes, companies charge you shipping for RMA's. I am sure there are a lot more stupid people mishndling their hardware or overclocking it too far to destroy it than actual hardware going bad. Unless they know there is a defect in the product, they may pay shipping.

Perhaps you got two bum cards? I know the odds are crazy, but it is possible...

If so, I'd stay inside during thunderstorms :p

I once had two 8800GTX fail ... first RMA had artifacts 2 days after I got it, the 3rd one was ok.

I now just went through a 9800GX2 RMA and in less than 30 days the card is dead...

However I've built 78 systems in the past 2 years and used 122 EVGA products (mobo and gpus) and only had 6 fail... so the failure rate is very low nonetheless.

One bad experience does not warrant the legitimacy such a ridiculous opinion.

EVGA is a fantastic company. I've bought multiple products from them and never had a problem.

The unhappy users are always more vocal than the happy ones...EVGA, BFG and XFX are all great companies that sell enthusiast products, and anytime I had an issue with a product EVGA was on top of it.

Asus 4870x2 and Asus Rampage Extreme owner here running rock solid. Never had an issue with Asus products. I will never buy another brand other than asus when it comes to video cards
or motherboards .

As for the op, just avoid evga like the plague from now on, and go with the company that you have good experience with. EVGA has some crazy PR tactics so be prepared
to be flamed.:p

I didn't upgrade its a new build I was going to give the old system (which had the 8800 in it) to my daughter ;)

I may HAVE to go with eVGA lol I already sent in the rebate so they may not let me exchange it for a different brand.

Truer word have rarely been spoken.

OP - Sorry you got a couple bum cards man. But just realize that all companies have a certain amount to their product fail. I have bought a lot of cards in my day. I've had to RMA one XFX card. Never an EVGA product. However Im not about to come on the boards and spout off about how EVGA > XFX.

XFX handled my RMA quickly and without error. I would encourage people to buy cards based on warranty, features, and cost. Not user opinions. ;)

Best of luck with your new system.

all three from the eVGA web forums there are several other forums and blogs that have the same issue with the 9800 GTX+ series from eVGA.

Maybe they will let me get a 260 and not the 9800 series. I was going to use the "step up" program but they require the original box and I cut the proof of purchase off of it so I don't qualify I guess.

some people even have to "underclock" there cards to get them to work.

That happened to me when I had an EVGA brand 7900-series card a long time ago. I recall a handful of threads demanding BIOS updates or replacements to be doled out, but were quickly deleted as if to discourage people from posting. Not one to take it up the ass, I remember exchanging a few emails with one Jacob Freeman who came off as if he had better things to do than his job .

I have had products fail on me before, but never had I been so poorly treated by someone who's job it is to fix problems. That was my last EVGA product. Never again.

Sounds like memory settings to me. Noticed in your older thread that you had the wrong settings at first. Then you mention that after you corrected them after you reinstalled the 8800GTX, you ran memtest for 3 hours (not a whole day).
All manufacturers have products that fail. If you choose to avoid them because of your experience, that is a fine excuse. However, saying EVGA fails and everyone should avoid them is stretching for sure because your experience is not the norm.
Also it appears you have a problem with reading comprehension. Your "PAY FOR RMA" is only for cross shipping and it's optional. However, all vendors require you to pay for shipping expenses back to them (includine Asus and Gigabyte). Asus and Gigabyte don't even offer cross shipping. So EVGA offers and it's your choice to upgrade to that service, or not. I guess that's a con to you.
If you not willing to read recommended settings for your products, read through vendor websites on rma "options", I think you should call it quits and go to a console.
"You can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot please all the people all the time." I think applies to this thread.
However blaming manufacturers for your configuration issues will not get your far, but no harm to me if you want to waste your time RMAing multiple parts instead of taking ownership and root causing the issue.

Well still having issues :( Same exact issue with the system hanging at the performance tab. I found that my memory (OCZ2F8004GK) is suppose to be at 2.1V and the system board was running it at 1.8. I uped that and also chanced the settings to 5.4.4.18 T2 That help the random BSOD issue but it is far from stable :( I am currently trying to find the newest drivers from the net for my system but I am having no luck

I have never had so many issues with a new build but I don't blame Gigabyte or any other manufacture I am sure its something I am doing wrong because I have been out of the game for a LONG time lol

There are SOOOOOO many settings in the bios that I have NO IDEA what to change next LOL I did find many guides and I am learning so hopefully I'll figure it out :p

Anywho I'll keep at it. I may buy some diferent ram and try that out but I can't for the life of me figure out why the nvidia control panel keeps BSODing my system when I click the performance tab.

Damn son, what do you do for a living?

Medstudent. Doesn't pay shit yet, but I won't have to worry about job security when I'm done, and will be able to steal L2 from the lab :D

Didn't say those systems were for me though! I build systems during summer and Xmas time for beer money.

EVGA doesn't make the card. They slap the sticker on it and offer a different customer service experience. Unless the company actually builds the board and is more involved in the costruction of the card, the only things you can bitch at are the company's Customer service, or the manufacturer of the card (Nvidia or ATi). Sounds like your complaint is against Nvidia, and not EVGA.

Change the title of the thread.

If your goal is to get a free upgrade you make me sick.. However, you can still step up to a 260 gtx if you provide proof of purchase, your within 90 days of that purchase date, and all that they ask is you deduct the rebate from the ammount you paid. Your stepup price will be the difference between what you paid and the MSRP of the 260GTX. You will be responsible for shipping back to them and the cost of shipping of the new card to you.

However, you should work out your system issues first because swapping additional parts will not do you any good

No I'm not looking for anything for free :) there is something wrong with the 9800gtx+ series of cards so I want something other then that. My problem is I sent in the proof of purchase so I don't think they will take it for step up and I don't think I can exchange it at microcenter unless its like for like. I'm taking it with me tomarow so I'll find out then.

ALSO FOR EVERYONE THAT KEEPS POSTING IN RESPONCE TO UtopiA's post about upgrading from a 8800 to 9800 I DID NOT UPGRADE ROFLMAO!!! Its a new build my old system will go to my daughter as soon as I get a new card for this system.

UPC missing is ok for stepeup, however if you sent in your only receipt for the rebate (example not a copy) your SOL unless you get Microcenter to reprint it.

There is nothing wrong with the 9800GTX+ series of cards, and if your mature enough to raise a daughter, you should be able to simply laugh at and totally ignore something as stupid as UtopiA's comment, as well as anyone else antagonizing and looking for a laugh.

Lol agreed.

Agree with lgestle, looking at your older thread, it seems you aren't even acclimated to your BIOS, much less your new build.
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1382529

I admit I am still trying to figure out all the settings in the Gigabyte bios (MAN there are alot of timing settings and such) BUT as stated all the burn in tests have passed without error so I think I have the system up and running just fine now AND this whole experience has taught me alot about the BIOS so I think I got it down now :)

Also don't forget that with the 8800 in the system I am no longer getting any PSOD/BSOD. the system is running and has been for about 48 hrs now with no reboots or crashes.

My experience with 6 Evga video cards over time and one motherboard, have been great. As has been dealing with the company. The same may be said for XFX. I've owned three of their cards. The BFG card I owned was good and their tech support acted like snarky hateful teenagers to me so I swore them off. I don't need that when I deal with you in a patient intelligent and respectful manner.

What?
I asked a question before he said anything about giving the old system to his daughter.

Question answered, moving on.

hehe I did laugh at it but thats why I posted explaining it wasn't an upgrade but others after him posted as well UtopiA just didn't know at the time thats why I explained it :p also did you read the other links I posted?? there are documented issues with the 9800 eVGA products. doing a simple search of PSOD and eVGA comes up :)

People have speculated that its the aggressive clocking of the 9800 that causes the issue and thats why some resort to "underclocking" there cards to get around the issue. Never the less its a real issue.

Oh please, we all know exactly what you meant by it so cut the innocent crap act out.

I havent really looked into it, but as others have said, the cards the the AIBs get, are literally all the same. The only thing the AIBs can generally do is manipulate the clocks for their factory OCed versions. If you had a factor OCed version, i wouldnt be shocked at all that you had two duds.

Now worries Dende, you have to know that you are not going to get sympathetic responses to your
issues here....a lot of people like evga here. I don't like evga personally as I had an issue with
a crap 680i. Once I have an issue with a company I simply do not buy from them any more.

I am sympathetic to your situation as that is a lot of hassle having to rma or return a product. Definitely
go with asus, bfg or xfx next time.

I'd also suggest going with a 4850...it's a better card than the 9800gtx overrall, and XFX
is going to be making them soon.

Id check the power supply first off then I would check the socket itself, (power it off first at circuit breaker), see if its ground properly etc. Two video cards gone bad in a row, especially on a BFG psu (not exactly the most reliable, a lot of newegg reviewers had theirs just fail on them) so dont flame Evga for this.
