I'm mostly a hardware guy.

My GF has a client and a project she is way behind on. It's not such a simple task to just reload Windows 7. She has tons and tons of projects on her workstation. Yes. she has most of it backed up.

The problem is she doesn't have time to reinstall Windows 7 ATM.

She has kinda asked me to kindly ask this community for a solution.

We have done all the basic stuff, disabled startup programs. This had zero effect.

When we go into msconfig and do the diag startup ... it loads extremely fast.

What am I missing? Is there a software tool or trick to reset the way Windows 7 loads? We've ran malwarebytes, ccleaner, various virus programs, and we are not getting anywhere.

I really hope we can just reset her install to factory / startup somewhere so we do not have to reinstall her Windows 7.

You could run the upgrade to Windows 10, that would reset everything and be easier than a reinstall of Windows 7.

And you've defragged?

If you've already gone through most of that, and defragged, likely you're simply dealing with a shitty, slow hard drive.

Cloning over to an SSD MIGHT help. But no guarantee.

And, honestly, I don't think upgrading to Win10 will help either (and might introduce new problems).

Yep finding out what autoruns will be important as well as making sure it is free of malware and viruses. How much memory does her pc have? If it doesn't have enough that can cause a sluggish PC as it will use the OS's swapfile (harddrive) to compensate causing some sluggish performance.

Good luck!

What are system specs? how full is the hard drive? what kind of tasks are being run?
Given what you tried already, my guess is a hardware limitation.
