I have been interested in DC and Folding@Home for a while now and i figured that since i need a new hobby, its not a bad thing to do (with the helping humanity and all. At the moment i only have my school laptop running the client(2.16ghz dual core centrino, 2gb ram). But when i get home on the weekend, i will defiantly set up the rig in my sig to fold when I'm away in school (24/7 all week barring any crashes). Now then i have a few questions. When i register under Hard Folding i put the total number of physical CPU's i have not the number of cores. Is that correct? Also, how do i make sure that my clients are working(I'm running the command line clients as a service.) Lastly, is there any simple and cheap way of monitoring my computer at home to make sure its running as best as it can? Thanks for all your help

I can't help with this one. You don't really need to register at HardFolding to see your stats.

Check CPU load. Should be 100%.

Also, if your machine at home is multicore, please run the SMP client for 5x PPD.

Lastly, is there any simple and cheap way of monitoring my computer at home to make sure its running as best as it can? Thanks for all your help

2. What OS do you have? Best monitoring is to have remote access (which would also allow you to restart FAH client if needed).

Recomendation:
Use SMP client on Quad - if you want maximum performance run 2 Linux SMP in VM
Overclock your CPU

I am using XP Pro on my laptop (From which i will be doing the monitering) and Vista Ultimate 64 on my home computer (to be monitored)

Most of your questions seem to have been answered already so I'll just go with the hardfolding question.

While you do not need to add all that stuff to see your stats and things like that, thanks for registering. Also, I would count the number of cores you have rather than CPUs. When that part of hardfolding was designed, there were no such things as multi-core CPUs. Since we're now dealing with cores as well as physical CPUs, it would be best to use the number of cores as your CPU count.

Alright, gonna have to rethink my strategy, after one day of folding i realize that my laptop is the worst possible platform to fold on (low processing power, constantly on battery, heats up my tiny dorm room when the cpu is maxed) so im unfortunatly going to have to uninstall it here, but when i get home i will set up 4 clients on my quad core and let that run during the week and overnight to help the cause.
