I wasnt folding for the last 6 months due to personal reasons, Im back in now with one box, and Ill add a few more over the next few days :)

Hey, whatever the reasons, we're glad your back! Welcome back to the [H]orde!

Every little bit helps the team.... and the teams ultimate goal is to help humanity.
THe whole "who's number one" thing is cool and keeps things interesting... but the real goal is saving someone you love or someone you may not even know.... but who has people who love them.

It's great to see so many people coming back. I took time off for a few reasons and only came back 6 months ago or so.

Welcome back, any machine you bring online for the first time make sure to add it to the "D" thread. Great to have you back onboard.

Fold on fellas!

It wasnt anything bad....I moved to another state, was without net access for a while......then life kicked in full steam.....was just too busy ....I just got done rebuilding all my boxes (5) and will be installing clients on all of them this weekend..

I love seeing people come back. It's great for the team and great for the cause. We need all the help we can get and it keeps coming in thanks to people like you.

Bring the heat!
Every box does help, but bring the AC instead... ask rj for what it's like when you bring the heat in a room with 2 computers.

Glad to have you back, man. Fold on!

only 2? thats not very [H]

unless its a very very small room ;)

it is indeed quite small... there's my bed (long twin or w/e you call it) then 3 feet from the edge of the bed to the edge of my desk. one end of the bed is at the door, the other is at the wall. the door is right next to the opposite wall. desk is about 3 feet deep, and 4 feet long. it is suspended between two dressers, each around 3 feet square and floor to ceiling.

the computers are both athlons... a 1.33 tbird @ 1.33 cause i can't OC it (crap mobo) and a 2400 mobile @ 2.3. both are at 100% load all day (courtesy of UD at this point, i haven't checked whether F@H works through squid or not recently) gets pretty hot at night when the AC shuts off.

also, i'd add more computers if i could do so without tripping the breaker. i'm riding on the edge as it is... i can't run the vacuum at the same time as my boxen. so i don't vacuum my room (or i plug it into another circuit) i do wanna put duallies in tho. pick up a pair of 1.8 durons and a k7d, and upgrade the tbird a bit... by which i mean install the duallies, and relocate the 1.33 and its mobo.

then i'd pick up some opterons to give the main box a boost... but first i need more disk space

well, that and a job.
mwhahaha

I have three computers and a soda cooler in the same room. This is a room in a friend's house since I currently can't afford internet access. The soda cooler is one that you would find in the store. Not a soda machine, though. It gets a bit warm in the room at times.

Oh yeah, there is no airflow in the room and its about 6'x10' with a bunch of my friend's stuff piled up against the walls.

RJ you've got almost an identical setup to me. My room isn't much bigger than yours, its longer but not as wide probably. My two boxen in the room here are close to identical in raw speed too, a XP-M 2500+ @2.2 and a T-bird 1.4. It gets really hot in here too. But since I have a job I've got a secret borg weapon on my desk there, a P3 733! It folds tinkers like they're going out of style!

Oh btw, welcome back crosshairs

Imitation, just out of curiosity, how many points per day (PPD) does your Pentium3 733 average? Some people say they are good at folding.

~Thanks

HAHA haha haha Now that is a great question. It's been folding for me for about a month now and it just turned in its 2nd tinker I think. Now granted this is my work machine and it is paging off the hard drive 24/7 cause I only have 256megs of ram. If you could tell me how to figure out the PPD for it maybe then I could tell you. All I know is that its balls slow compared to my other 2 boxen.

Like the bumper sticker says "Stuff Happens" ;)

Welcome back

You can eaither open the log file and read how log it takes per frame on average, then multiply times the total frames, that should give you the total time it takes for one WU, then divide the points by the total time in days to get PPD.

Or, you can just download a program like EMIII which will automatically calculate PPD along with many other things.
http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude1/emsite/em3.html
Once you get it working, it might take a few frames before it gets an accurate measure.... then just right click some random spots and when a popup box opens up, click "calculate points". The program works good (saves me a bunch of time).

Welcome back brother in arms.

I put up 2 more boxes this morning, 3 total now......Im gonna add 2 more on saturday...I should see some WU's turned in today I hope
Watch out folks.....I gotta lot of catching up to do :)

Towert7, this machine (P3 733) took roughly 8 days to finish a 239 point tinker. Its a very poor estimate though cause its not folding 24/7 and I use it alot during work hours, and having EM running along with everything else would slow this compy down even more than before. So if that helps you any, great. If not I'd go find one to play with to see if they really are good folders or not :)

edit: btw I got 8 days by goin thru the log and guestimating the time by counting up the hours. So 239/8 = 29.8 PPD

Yea, that sounds about right.
I have a P3 800mhz computer. When I used to use it for my main computer, it would average 32 PPD, but now that I have a new computer, its putting out about 45 PPD. Does'nt seem like a heck of a lot of points... so I was just curious if mine was diffrent.

my farm, 5x 733's 1x 1.2Tbird, 2x 400mhz gets 600ppd avg last time i checked (via stats page on fold server)...

granted 4 of them have 600 pointers right now :)

My dual P3 464Mhz box is crunching 2 249 point tinkers now. It's got 150 hours left on each of them with 195 of 400 frames done. It's roughly 19 PPD per processor, and they run 24/7.

These are katmai cores(think off die L2 cache running at half speed) though, so they must be less efficient than the coppermines. That makes me wish I had a pair of slokets to run the P3 550 coppermines I have in the drawer next to me.

Yea, mine is also a Slot CPU. I wish it came with an actual socket type processor with on die cache.

Kodiak*, that's a really good PPD if its just from those 8 processors. from the 5 733 ide estimate maybe 40 points each, 120 from the Tbird (if stock), and maybe 18 out of each of the 400mhz... (ide estimate around 350 PPD). Oh well, all the better for the [H]orde.

Yea im not sure why it was so high, but didnt really look into it anymore, was just glancing at it the other night to make sure everything was still running.

Ok I have 5 up and running now....... Im looking thru my closets for more parts :)

Only 1 box turned in so far, I hope by Saturday or Sunday, they will all have turned in a WU....
