What are the symtoms of you frying your processor. Will your computer give off some sort of continuous beep or something.

In my limited experience the cpu is usually the last thing to go (unless it's melted to the board or you can see discoloration, etc) ) Intel goes through a lot of effort to make frying a cpu difficult (ie speed step, the temp thing C something, etc) Get your BIOS beep codes out and try to interpret the problem. May be RAM needs reseating, video card needs reseating, bad mobo, biorhythms (only kidding) lots of things. If you're lucky you may just need to reboot.
 
Take your processor out, try to turn the system on. That's what happens when your CPU is dead.

I seem to remember a continuous beep being when the CPU fan isn't connected? Check if that fan is starting to spin up when you try to turn on the system...dead fan is way more common than dead CPU.
 
cpu dead it wont turn on, fans spin for a split second and nothing.


continous beeps is your bios temp alarm going off (in most boards) or a memory error in others.
 
I had a "light fry"
system kept shutting off at random times, became more and more frequent.

I replaced EVERTHING besides that proc. Fliped it over by mistake (got thremal grease on the rug) and there it be. A dark spot on the bottom of the proc. Runs still. Just cant ask much from it and have to keep it at stock speed.
 
I just had one of these. I bought an e6600 and had this strange audio/video studder and it just continued to get worse. I tried some formats and it was still happening. I woke up the other morning and the pc appeared to be in standy by but wouldnt wake up.

When I rebooted the fans came on, hard drives made noise, dvd spun up but no error beeps. I put it in a different motherboard with a different PSU and ram. Still the same result. I just sent it out for RMA today.

At least it happened 3 days after I installed it and my studder went away. Back to my e6400 untill the rma returns.
