On another forum I go to, there is a user claming that AMD has the gaming market locked up, and that they are overall the better choice.

Actually, AMD sort of owns the gamer market right now. They did more than just improve. The 64 and X2 were the real turning points for AMD.

Then wait a few months, and the AM2+ boards will be mature. The only thing Intel has that can match the Phenom 9600 ($240) costs over $600 right now.

And AMD's AM3 parts come out later this year with DDR3 support.

Read this article, and especially the conclusion.

AMD is also releasing AM3 parts later this year, which will support DDR3, with an already superior bus and memory controller.

Intel parts run hotter, use more energy, and cost more for the same performance, and the design of the 775 socket and heatsink mount causes motherboards to bend. Since you brought up Anandtech, maybe you should also read this article about the fragility of the 775 socket and the real reliability problems with this design.

The AMD "errata" did not cause processing errors or corruption (like Intel's recent chipset and F00F bug problems did). It simply caused some systems to be unable to use all of the cores. On top of that, the AMD parts you buy now are already on the new stepping, which does not have that problem. And no Intel chip in the $240 range, despite what you claim, can touch the AMD parts for memory and bus performance. You need to spend four times as much for Intel, and deal with higher heat and energy consumption.

Intel's F00F bug and 915/945 chipset problems were much more serious than AMD's only "bug." Those Intel bugs finally pushed Dell over the edge and got them to add AMD.

To each his own. I have no vested interest in either company. I just want parts that work, run cool, and run fast, and for me, AMD does that better than Intel.

But yea, you will always find this. Used to be the P4 was better than the XP and the A64, now it's the X2 is better than the C2D. Some people are just clueless on some things.

I'm a mod on another forum(gamerenders if you've heard of it) and there's this guy, "computerkid" literally that's his name. He has in the past been adamant about ATi always being superior over nVida(we convinced him to get an 8800 though, but later he claimed that it's not much faster than a 2600, and I'm getting the feeling that he's upset he listened or something, moral of the story, don't buy a $300 card if you're playing CS1.6 and starcraft) And he insists that the athlons are always the better choice(and he has the x2 6000+ to prove his belief) then when he entered the 3m06 thread he complained that the only reason ym score was almost twice as high was because I overclocked my card(8800GTS 640 650/1750/2050 is not 50% faster than a stock GTS320, only roughly 30%)

When it comes down to it, there are alot of people who have their own biases and personal agenda. Admitting you made the wrong choice is hard and ignoring facts is easy.

I'd say it was the K6II that was the first time they posed a threat to intel at the performance level. Heck K7 just SHOOK intel hard moreso than K8.

That's amazing computerpro. I am joining the site just to add my two cents as well. The BS he was coming out with was unreal, and they were all believing him.

What I liked most, was when you asked him to provide a link that proves the Phenom is better than the intel chip, and suddenly He says He hates arguing and all that. LOL
