So I have a pair of Nuforce NE-6s. They are awesome. Except the cable broke.

Now I need something else. Requirements are sound quality at least as good as the NE-6s, price under $80, and must have a right angle connector.

What does the [H] recommend?

The S4 aren't bad, you can usually do a little better for the price tho... You looking for balanced armatures or dynamic driver? With mic or doesn't matter? Edit: Actually the S4 for $50 (link above) are a better buy than the $80+ they usually go for, bass heavy but if you don't mind that's a nice price indeed.

I have this, which I got for $50 shipped used.

The soundstage is decent for an IEM but the real highlight is the detail and separation, they are both fantastic. I've never heard anything as detailed, clean, and clear (compared to ATH-AD500, Monoprice MEP-933, Sennheiser MX400, and JLABS J2). One word of caution: you have to enjoy a neutral sound. This is supposedly one of those. EDIT Oh, and it has a right-angle plug. The newer ones have a slight bend, not a hard 90* like mine, and it looks really spiffy. Google it and you'll see. The newest version looks like this. http://bestearbudsunder200.blogspot.com/2012/04/hifiman-re0-headphones.html

Here is a review for it on Head-Fi (the index number is 2C1 using Find). The reviewer gives it 8.3 for sound quality, and it hits really heavy on price/performance. http://www.head-fi.org/t/478568/multi-iem-review-236-iems-compared-vsonic-gr06-gr01-added-04-19-12

RE0 is not a very durable iem though.

Look to head fi for the monster iem review thread

The S4 isn't durable either. And then there's the dreaded "Wire echo" problem with them (Whenever you even brush against the wires they make a really loud noise that is audible.) That's why I gave up and moved to UE Triple Fi 10s. Too bad those are out of the OPs price range.

Cheers,

I've used many of the top notch IEMs and I have to say my Shure's were the best ones I ever had until my brother ran over them. :( Short on cash atm so I won't be buying another pair of Shure's for awhile but I plan to use these for running with some custom ear flanges. They got raving reviews on Head-Fi too.

For 6.06 + SH, what's there to lose? :p

Those are pretty good. The wire is a bit rough feeling so a bit of electrical tape or something where your ear hits the wire would help.

I personally just buy cheap iems b/c I tend to destroy them after a few months. I might have a good pair to use in bed or by my pc for critical listening.

Yeah +1 to the Monoprice, I have them and they sound very good. It's much more than $10 worth of sound quality (including shipping, tax, etc). Get some Sony Hybrid eartips and you're good to go. The stock tips that came with it were too small for me. Also, sometimes the sound echoes inside the plastic chamber, but it happens infrequently.

Plus, at only $10, if it breaks... get another one! :)

I would get this, but that connector is a no-go. It'll get trashed in maybe a month.

edit: What do you folks think of the ECCI PR401? Seems like it has good sound quality, is within my budget, and I like the flat cable as it makes it easy to prevent twisting (a good portion of the reason my NE-6s are dead).

Yes, I know this thread is old, but someone has heard the GR07's and now so have I.

They're awful. Muddy bass, small cluttered soundstage. I'd been suffering w/ them since my TF10's broke...suffering until...

I got these. Specifically the MK2 version from Amazon.com (quantum wireless). I LOVE these. Better than my TF10 and destroy's the S4. Sub bass impact is extremely impressive for an IEM in this price range. They are absolutely balanced and do great w/ every genre I throw @ them.

I've had these, but sadly, the larger overall diameter of them caused ear pain. Low on bass, but great vocals. Pretty great IEM.

I do miss those for their terrific instrument separation, depth of sound stage, and sparkly highs. Though, the GR07's stomp on them IMO because I can actually hear the mids. Anything w/ vocals sounds an order of magnitude better on the GR07's. You have to like that kind of sound though. Lots of folks prefer the V signature the TF10's give them.

"GR07 is not a ‘wow’ type of IEM in first listen. Its strength lies within the control and refinement on presenting micro detail over the whole frequency range, while at the same time trying to be as natural as possible without stressing the listener."
