okay so i got this IDE to SATA device, it plugs directly into the back of the drive and then from there i can hook up a sata cable to it from my motherboard.

the drive has power however there is no drive detected in windows, obviously i need to enable an intergrated peripheral or install some kind of drivers, or even a combination of the two.

however i have 0 knowledge of SATA/RAID this is the first time i've ever used anything with it.

the BIOS options i have are:

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH9R Southbridge)

SATA AHCI Mode (Intel ICH9R Southbridge)

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode (Intel ICH9R Southbridge)

SATA Port0-1 Native Mode (Intel ICH9R Southbridge)

Also, the drivers are:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2626

scroll down till you see "SATA RAID". honestly i don't even know if i need those or if i have the right ones.

maybe someone can point me in the right direction here.

Select "Native" for the last two BIOS options you listed. And set to "AHCI" for the second one you listed. That should work

Thanks for the help Danny, this seemed to detect the device, however after detecting it goes to boot up windows and eventually never does.

Once I remove the sata cable everything is fine. I'm guessing it's something to do with this ide to sata device, i'm not sure.

ever hear of anything like this?
