After I get finished with my new build later this fall I was thinking about what I would do with my old system. Well I'm going to overclock it. I was just curious to what I could push this thing to on air. Now I'm not talking about a suicide run here but I would like it hit a point where I know it's the limit but stay there and be stable as I would like to still use it.

2.8ghz // 533mhz fsb
ASUS P4S533
PC2700 DDR

Right now I got a VANTEC VP4-C7040 as my CPU cooler.

At stock I'm running between 35-39c idle and 45-48c under load.

I'd be willing to drop a few bucks for a better cooler. But other than that would be it.

Would 3.4 - 3.6ghz be expecting too much?

I'd try to OC it first and then decide if its worth buying a new cooler.

With that cooler, I'd expect 3GHz tops, maybe 3.2GHz if you're very lucky. I didn't have much luck overclocking my old 2.4GHz Northwood B P4, the C revision of the core did much better.

I say 3.2Ghz tops if you have decent amount of airflow in your case I managed to overclock a 2.0Ghz Pentium 4 Northwood A to around 2.33Ghz on stock cooling with a low-end motherboard.

my 478 system was a prescott 3Ghz 800mhz fsb. When I built a rig after that I overclocked it to about 3.7Ghz and ran like a champ for 3months.. then just stopped working one day... wonder why? idle was around 49-52 ish... playing games it was up around 60's .. I had a 9700pro in that beast to.. my whole electric bill dropped when that guy fried. :)

Asus has a program called ASUS probe I belive, you can just tune your system from the desktop.. I've never used it, but i've seen it used.. might be worth a shot.
