IBuyPower - Buyer Beware

I ordered a computer from Ibuypower several weeks ago, and they just kept delaying my order over and over again. I wouldn't have minded so much if they just told me up front that it would take a month to ship my computer out (or two months or whatever), but they stated a week and they kept delaying it over and over again. Also, they did not hesitate to charge my credit card right away, so they were sitting on well over a thousand dollars of my money, without giving me any realistic idea of when I would be getting my product.

Ibuypower has cheap prices, but you get what you pay for. I cancelled my order and am now looking at ABS, or possibly getting a Dell or Alienware.

That's the problem with outfits that are basically parts suppliers that provide final integration services for a nominal fee.

You can't build a business building and support systems when your margins are 5%.

(Companies like Dell excluded because of other streams of revenue that must be taken into account.)

If you're looking for a company with competitive prices, I'd seriously consider PC Club.

I just placed an order with ABS. It cost a bit more, but hopefully I will have better luck with them. ABS's website looks more professional, and they don't give you as much choice in terms of components, but that may actually be a good thing if it makes it easier for them to put the things together reliably.

Dell is solid. My family has bought numerous Dells in the past, and they ship them out blazing fast. But that said Dell costs $$$ and it usually doesn't have the latest and greatest gaming parts available.

IbuyPower is horrible, some kid got his with his 7800( i think) in backwards! It was drooping of the mobo..

ABS is Newegg's parent company, so that should tell you a lot about how big of an operation they are.

You should read our latest Dell evaluation. ;)

I bought my comp from Ibuypower and it's still working perfectly, i support them, they are just for a certain kind of people who can manage everything with no tech support.

If you don't get support why not buy the parts seperately and save money& shipping expenses

The other problem that companies like this present is that to someone searching for a PC, their prices look so attractive that eventually people look at companies who deliver top quality customer service and superior product as being 'overpriced'.

Did you know that some low cost builders do not guarantee the brand name of the components in their PCs?

yes, yes, but at the time I just wanted the thing built for me. Customer service is for pwn3d n00bs who need to learn a little more before using a PC.(unless it is a broken item). but even then, some of the companies are overpriced, I wouldn't trade my system for an alienware unless they gave ME money, and got rid of that terrible case.

Sure man, but you have a very specific reason for purchasing what amounts to a bunch of parts that happen to be put together - you already possess a significant amount of knowledge about what you're getting into...not knocking your logic here, just voicing some concerns I have in general about the philosophies of some of these bargain basement outfits...

And, there's a helluva lot more to customer service than technical support.

Not in the business world buddy. Where I work, we lose roughly $600 per hour per system during downtime. It's very nice to have the parts I need overnighted to me from Dell (or in our case IBM) and just do a pull-n-drop in the morning than it is to pull an all-nighter trying to fix something.

But that is a reason why people buy pre-built systems- customer service. If you don't need any customer service, why not just build your own or start with barebones...?

Exactly true. It's real easy to say building your own is the best way or better way until you have to put YOUR ass on the line.

LOL I work in a tech environment and you would be suprised at how many "techs" come to me for hardware and software assistance :)

But, do you want the headache of designing, ordering, assembling, let's say a 1,000 PC's and 100 servers? And then when one konks out, doing the whole RMA thing on the bad part with whatever vendor you used for the part or the manufacturer?

I'd rather just call let's say HP and say "Send me out another PSU for a DT330. Overnight it please" and then just drop the bad one back into the box and put it in the stack for FedEx to pick up.

yeah, i am not tallking about replacement parts, i would get pissed at a broken part, I am talking about knowledge of how to fix computers.
