Anyone at all notices any IB CPUs at any of the MC's yet? Just wondering if I could steal one before the 29th. I just don't want to go in there and realize there a line a mile long on the 29th.

I haven't checked stores, but I'm getting mine online anyway. Are these supposed to drop on newegg at midnight?

If those prices are right it's going to be hard to justify getting an IB CPU, at least if you have a Microcenter around. $250 for a 3570k is too close to the $280 price of a 2600k and $70 higher than a 2500k.

It's even worse for the 3770k, as along with the 2600k and 2700k costing a lot less it also has to compete with socket 2011. Microcenter sells the 3820 for $250, and with the chip being priced $100 lower it makes a 2011 board + chip competitive with a 3770k + board. Considering that the main advantage of IB over SB for gaming is having PCIe 3.0 available for SLI setups this really stings since 2011 is much better at PCIe 3.0 with 40 lanes.

FWIW someone at overclocker.net claims to have spoken with a Microcenter rep and prices are supposedly $350 for the 3770K and $250 for the 3570K.

That's right in the ballpark with that guy who posted a pic of (apparently) a Fry's inventory display showing $340 for the 3770k. I think those prices are ridiculous, I thought Intel was suggesting $313 for the 3770k, or was that in blocks of 1,000 units?

I called my local Frys today and the guy confirmed availability tomorrow but would not tell me pricing or how many they had on-hand. I'm not too worried about price as they will match Newegg/amazon I just hope they still have 3770k's when I get there. I have everything assembled and ready to go but an empty CPU socket!

Intel is suggesting it but stores don't have to follow that suggestion. I would expect prices to be high at first. They always are it seems. Those so called quoted prices don't surprise me. Once the supply line is full the price gouging will stop and you'll see those prices come down closer to the suggested prices. Give it a few weeks at least.

You misspelled "pricing to meet demand." There is no such thing as "price gouging."

I'll wait if I have to, or maybe even build with a Sandy Bridge, if Newegg et al prices IB's above MSRP (and significantly above equivalent Sandy Bridge models). I wouldn't be thrilled about buying the older CPU, but since I don't really care about PCI-E 3.0, I'll take what I can get, I guess.

I'm definitely not waiting for Haswell, and either Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge would be leaps and bounds greater than the creaky old Wolfdale I'm hobbling along with at present.

I got the Micro Center flyer in the mail today. It's got the 3770K at $289. Just $10 more than the 2700K. It's also got some nice motherboard combos. Including the P8277-V Pro that I've been eyeing for $169 vs $219 regular price. Pretty much the same as Sandy Bridge.

Unfortunately, sales tax in my state brings the price right back to par with online stores such as Newegg.

/edit: $349 at Newegg??? I thought it was suppose to be $330 at most.

I was thinking they might offer a discount... was waiting to see if they do. Do you think they will sale out? $350 seems a little high... Do you know if "adding to card" will hold 1 for you? I have added mine to cart but not checked out.

Do you think they will offer a sale? You think we should wait for an email?

Doubtful. If you have a Microcenter next to you that might be the best bet. Rumored to be $289. Think online retailers are going to be around $340-350 for awhile.

Oh man... Order now from new egg or wait until I get to Frys tomorrow and chance that both Frys and newegg will be OOS by then... Decisions.

Some are standing in line outside frys already! Anyone standing there now on a smart phone surfing hardforum?

Why ? To save 20 bucks, 40 bucks ?

If it matters that much then you SHOULD NOT be buying a new CPU in the first place :p

Finally - some launch pricing sanity!

$190 is a mere $11 within i5-2500K (for i5-3570K).
$290 is the same distance for i7-3770K (from i7-2600K).

Checked the original post @ overlockers.net - which has an actual picture of the ad - the same bundleage applies to Ivy.

MC SKUs are 425405 for I7-3770K and 425470 for i5-3570K - pre-tax diff from their Sandy-K older bros is $10.

So, if you have a Sandy-K bundle in your cart (or on your MC price list), add $10USD to get the same price for an Ivy bundle.

The linkage is *not* live yet for the i5-3570K - I edited the URL to reflect the correct SKU in my following *worst-case* build package.

(Everything is priced via MC Fairfax, VA - it's the MC I usually shop at - it doesn't hurt when the same shopping center has both a McDonald's *and* a Starbucks in it.)

CPU - Intel Core i5-3570K

Motherboard - BIOSTAR TZ77XE4

CPU Cooling - Corsair H60

PSU - Inland Gold Series 600W Single-Rail PSU
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0346857
SSD - Samsung 830 Series 64GB SATA-III SSD
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0385836
Case -CoolerMaster HAF912
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0343331
GPU - XFX HD6770 1 GB GDDR5
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0364977
Accessory - 8 GB USB 3.0 Flash Thumb Drive
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0385308
(I'm buying *at least* three of these - these *faster-than-optical* thumb drives should make for lickety-split OS installs, and especially to SSDs.)
Accessory - SYBA 4-port USB 2.0 PCIe X1 Controller Card
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0368811
(This is for the system I am departing, as *apparently* the USB 2.0 ports that connect via bracket - both front and rear - have decided to head south.)
Accessory - SYBA 2-port USB 3.0 PCIe 1 Controller Card
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0368809
(System I am leaving - not building. G41 doesn't support USB 3.0; however, it does support PCIe X1.)

Any idea when to expect Amazon to have them available based on past launches?

According to that thread on Overclockers, Amazon or an affiliate through Amazon just sold out of the 3770k.

I checked out camelcamelcamel to get a sense of how the 2600k pricing has changed since launch. It was introduced at $330 and took 4 months before it hit $315 for the first time:

.
Price for the 2500k actually dropped $10 to 169.99. $20 less than 3570k. 2700k dropped $20 to $280 which is the same price as 2600k, both are $10 less than the 3770k . i3 2100 also dropped $10 for strict budget buyers, now only $90.

Of course it did - they have to keep those previously committed to Sandy from switching to Ivy.

However, the budget pressure is not that stiff (and I'm not into super-tall overclocks) - and I actually have a use for the IGP of i5-3570K (when I move my desktop to my bedroom and the 42" plasma therein) I can surf and do browser-based gaming on said plasma and give the XFX HD6770 a break.

I bit the bullet. I know it's not a huge bump, but it's new.

anyone have experience with TD in launch cpus? I already know that for gtx 680s, you'd be better off shooting yourself in the tooth, but am curious if they would be okay ordering ivy bridge.

Good luck waiting seven months to get your rebate....factor in sales tax and longer shipping time and your gonna need some lube. Tiger can suck it, they just aren't trying hard enough anymore :(
