save your money, economy is not so good right now. go feed a homeless person if you have all this cash to throw out.

That is the best single socket system that money can buy today.Have fun and enjoy it!

Why the EE if I may ask? What cooling? Unless you plan on some LN2/Phase change runs....I fail to see the point.

So Rich!!! OMMMGGGG

BTW what kinda feedback do you want? You pretty much know all the components you selected are top of the line?

Looks nice. Planning on buying a new screen along with that or do you have one already?

The one component that made my gaming experience that much more fun and took it over the top was buying a big screen to game on. Get your hands on a large screen LCD, plasma, maybe even a projector if you have a nice, dark room for one.

The colors on my Samsung A650 are much better than any computer LCD I have ever used (I'm not talking professional here), and the big screen really gives your games and everyone playing them that "wow!" factor.

Maybe buy some nice speakers to go along with that.

The 920's are overclocking higher than a lot of the 965's so that would be a complete waste of money. A 920 will run 3.2Ghz on stock voltage. And if you weren't planning to overclock to begin with then why are you buying the Corsair 1600 Dominators?

The RAM is kind of cheap for your kind, true ballers get 1866. Get a Lian-Li full tower while you're at it. Oh and maybe you want something to keep your CPU cool, unless you plan to buy new ones every few days?

I haven't read deep into the specs yet between 2 gtx 295 vs 3 gtx 285s... but my guess is that the three will gtx 285s will beat two gtx 295s even though it is technically 4 GPUs vs 3 GPUs..

other than that.. get 12 GB ram instead of 6.. just for fun.. no real world application help but if you have it.. spend it

I'd go for an OC'd 920 over a stock 965 any day of the week. Not worth the extra cash, and you can get better speeds from the 920 anyway. Also, why not add an extra 6GB of ram. Last thing would be wait and get the 3x285's - they'll most likely kick the crap out of the 2x295's - or if not kick the crap out of, at least probably be better overall :)

Replace the raptors with 4 Intel SSD 80gb drives in Raid 0. Use the raptors for backup!

Oh, and I'd recommend 2000ghz ram to squeeze out that extra fps in Crysis.

Lastly, after you build it, inform me where you live and what time you will leave your house unattended! ;)

Good points all,

Going to go with the 920 instead. Will be cooling with the Coolermaster V8. I have the Dell 30" LCD so I'm good there. Will look into the Ram situation and jump it up a bit. I really wanted to put this together next weekend but with the 285's coming out next Thursday that may not be possible. Is tri sli with 285's going to be that much better than dual 295's that I should wait?

hey man, kinda seems like your trying to build the ultimate comp, is there a reason you wanted the I7 cause my bro's got the e8500 and that thing is beast. Not saying the I7's aren't just not sure if your gona actually use the I7 anymore than you would an e8600. Also if moneys not an issue then I don't see why not just go with the SSD now instead of getting the two 150gb raptors then pretty much through them away in a little? maybe i understood wrong?

save your money, economy is not so good right now. go feed a homeless person if you have all this cash to throw out.

In my opinion this is one of the mentalities bringing the economy to its knees.

I don't believe in spending money that I don't have. In fact I'm well into my life, family, etc... and the only debt that I have is my home and I don't owe much on it.

But seriously, there are still many people that are not being significantly affected by the economic downturn (aside from the paper loss on investments). Believe it or not, there are still people in this world that have plenty of cash flow to purchase things that are less than essential. And many of them are listening to the media, getting scared, and feeling the need to stuff their money under the mattress and bury some in the yard.

And besides, how do you know the OP hasn't been saving for a new gaming rig for 2 years?

Sorry for the OT post. I keep seeing statements like this on various forums... Like anyone who wants to spend a couple of dollars is obliged to feel guilt and abstain.

Ok i see everyones point on the 920 I myself actually went through 3 of them. 2 of them would only top out at 3.8 and with turbo the last one would top out 4.0 , and first two needed close to 1.45 volts to get to 3.8 the last one needed 1.36. I know this gigabyte UD5 very well so after the 920,s I went and bought the i7965 which now runs happily@4450 @ 1.3625 and @36c so im happy and mem running @2000 so was it worth it probably not but to each there own and im happy. But the 920 is a damn good cpu for the price. And what i do with my money and what everyone does with theres is there business.

my comment was more towards getting CPUs like the extreme version of the i7 when you can get a 920 and have just as good results. there is simply no need for that, cash lost. he wanted opnions and he got them, pretty simple.

Fair enough...

Well a couple of dollars isn't the same thing as a couple or three thousand dollars lol. Building a high-end PC can get expensive as I know I've spent quite a bit myself on this one I'm putting together but still yet I buy components based on price vs performance and whether or not I actually will notice a worthwhile difference in paying more for something I probably don't need. For example I don't spend an extra $500 for something that will give me maybe another 4-5 fps in Crysis.

And a known fact (not opinion) of what has brought this economy to it's knees is people keep spending outside of their means even if they can afford it at that particular moment. Bill Clinton and the fair credit act along with bank loans to people for 250k+ houses on interest rates that weren't locked is what got us to where we are today. Even though the more ignorant try to put the blame on Bush and the war in Iraq lol.

But the point being is there just isn't a point in buying the Intel Extreme and paying over $700 more than the 920. The 920's are overclocking as well and at times better than the Extreme. If the Extreme overclocked a gigahertz higher than the 920 then there might be an argument.

is this guy even serious? it seems like someone who have absolutely no idea about computers just went on newegg and picked out the most expansive parts, then put a computer together from that.

I am going to have to agree here...or at least has no idea about overclocking.

Nice one,

Why does there always have to be some fool that posts that either someone knows nothing about computers or has the financial ability to buy the best?

Are we just jealous because you perhaps cannot afford it?

I don't know a great deal about overclocking hence the request for opinions.......

I have no problem debating value, but that wasn't what I commented on. Sure Extreme processors are in the diminishing returns arena, nothing new.

Anyways I think interjecting the economy into these kind of threads is silly. It's not like the OP said "I'm gonna open up my 8th credit card and buy this stuff." It's dumb to jump to the conclusion that it's not. Might as well go troll some Corvette forum or something.

I definitely understand what you mean. But nowadays if you can learn how to turn the computer on, connect to the internet, and open Internet Explorer to go to Hotmail to check your e-mail you can also learn to overclock a 920 from 2.66Ghz to 3.2Ghz since it's a matter of changing about two settings in the BIOS and your done. And stability testing should be done no matter whether you overclock or whether you run stock speeds to make sure your hardware is all working and nothing is faulty, especially the memory which is the most prone to getting a bad DIMM.

So my opinion is definitely to go with the i7 920 and then as far as graphics cards either one of the two solutions you selected will be more than fast enough. But I would probably look at the GTX 285's myself since they have more memory and that will be important running on your 30" display. The GTX 295's have only 896MB per core and that can come into play when gaming at a high resolution.

The topic of the economy had already been interjected, even in your own previous post. I just jumped on the silly wagon and gave my opinion on it :).

sorry, it wasn't meant for flaming, but i literally thought u were joking and thought it would be fun to post up some ridiculous setup and watch peoples reactions.

First of all, like everyone else said, drop the extreme chip and get a 920

Then get some more hdd space and don't wait on SSDs. They will not be main stream for a long time. 1. price, 2. their life span is MUCH shorter than a normal hdd due to flash drives can be only overwritten for a certain number of times.

Also what resolution are u playing ur games at? If you play on a 17" mon theres obviously no need for a 295 SLi... You can always get one first and add another later cuz the price will always be dropping.

And no... we are not jealous cuz we can't afford it. Its just people have different values and budget on how much they would spend on a COMPUTER to play VIDEO GAMES.

Since price is not of concern and we are already cutting the costs down may I suggest a quality H20 loop for the i7 at least? TDP is fairly high and they do run hot when clocked. I see no reason not to run 4GHz with these chips and proper cooling.

The world is full of jealous idiots , don't bother with their smartass comments. If you can buy the system , then go for it without a doubt. It is simply the best money can buy. It's like asking a Bugatti Veyron owner why he chose a Bugatti over a Corvette. Yeah , you may tune the Corvette to have the same power , but D'OH!

Whether you decide to OC or not , it's your option.Either way , you have more choices with an EE.Secondly , it retains its value better.

The only useful tip , would be as someone pointed up previously , to get a liquid cooling system for noise consideration ( hot CPU and extremely hot video cards ) .Installing it might be a bit tricky however , if you aren't really technical.

"It retains its value better" lmfao. Comparing a computer with a car has gotta be the dumbest comparisons i have heard in a while. A computer has its use, either for game or work, and THATS IT. A car, on the other hand, is used for driving, but also shows STATUS. A lawyer will not drive a 10 years old toyota truck around when hes meeting with his clients. And I doubt someone who owns a bugatti veyron is someone who live in their parents' basement and play crysis all day.

A car or something like a watch has value and shows status. For example i can spend 5 grand on a watch, it tells time just like my dollar-store clock, BUT it will be worth 6grand the next year, or at least retain its current value. I can pass on to my kids and grand kids as something to keep, and it will still be worth money many generations later.

A computer... on the other hand... no matter how much you spend on one today, it will be a piece of junk 2 years later... It does not help you with woman, it does not show ur social status. Face it, a computer is only as good as its performance at doing what its suppose to do. And when the OP spend 5grand on a computer that does the same job as a 2grand comp, obviously everyone is gonna point and laugh.

Well, i can help you out..just PM me...i just finshed stealth & lockpicking course...

Man you guys have funny posts!!

OP, granted people here are trying to help save you some cash and you should listen to them. I went through the same thing when I bought my EE. I bought it and have never looked back. Sure I could have saved my self money but in the end it's my money and what I decide to do with it is none elses beeswax. So judge for yourself based on your needs and requirements and what people have said on whether you'd like to spend the money on an extreme system.

Good luck.
