Just like the title says the i7-9700k is $269.00 at b/h https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1435918-REG/intel_bx80684i79700k_core_i7_9700k_3_6_ghz.html

Also at Best Buy for a dollar more https://www.bestbuy.com/site/intel-...=198&refdomain=pcpartpicker.com&skuId=6302021

Was the same price at Amazon but is sold out. The 9th gen doesn't have hyper threading and this is an 8 core 8 thread processor. But when comparing to other current gen cpus, it still beats most for gaming but also keeps up in other tasks. Great price for a high performance cpu.

Got an open box 9700k at Microcenter for $159 plus $20 off a motherboard combo. I used it for a friend's build, but I kinda wish I would've kept it for myself.
I always hear about these elusive openbox CPU's at MC, but every time I'm over there (Tustin) and ask about them, they always insist "we don't do openbox on CPU's"

Any case, the $199 9700k is hands down the highest performance/$ right now, especially when cranked to 5Ghz, it's absurd value and right under everyone's noses while the frenzy fights for Zen3.

May be a location specific policy or something. The MI- Madison Heights location shows an open box 10900x and 2990WX right now.

Similar experience in Dallas. They had one listed one time that I was interested in.....but the sales associates said it's almost always not real. He did say they send them somewhere else.....so maybe they send them to different stores in certain markets.

i7 desktop with no hyper threading? What happened Intel????

The 9700K gained 2 cores over the 8700k to better compete with Ryzen 2. They had to cut hyperthreading as to not cannibalize their i9-9900k sales.

If you're using the CPU for gaming it shouldn't matter much, if at all.

The 9700k outperforms the 9900k in some games. Not saying it's a better chip but for this price there is really nothing to complain about. It was at the top of all the benchmark tests less than a year ago. I've been debating the upgrade for a month now from my 6700k. With the price of used parts right now I think I might go ahead and do it.

Is the 9900K worth an extra 100 over the 9700K @ MC?
No, assuming gaming is primary use.

9700k $199 Microcenter > 10700k $319 Best Buy > 9900k $299 @ Microcenter

Those are the best perf/$ values right now in order. Ideally cranked to 5Ghz in all cases.

THIS!! I did my research and pretty much came to the same conclusion and I'm still running on a 2500k with a gtx 970. Though now with DPI posting the 10700k for bestbuy I'll have to look into that as well.

Like I mentioned I'll have to look into the 10700k as well. Thanks for posting. Also enjoy your thread on getting the new gtx 30 series cards <3.

I went to go pick up a Ryzen 3700x open box from MC a year ago and they couldn't find it so they just gave me a new one for $240.

Man. $200 for a 9700k, if I was actually building a new rig right now that’s probably the way I’d go. That’s a hard value to beat, even considering it is “old” tech (and I usually turn off HT for better temps anyways, so I wouldn’t miss it). Would be worth a trip to MC for sure.

Looks like deal isn't as good now FYI. BB 10700K is back to 410. MC raised price on 9700k to 220 & 9900K to 330.
Only think to note is that MC 10700K is at 330 now if you are lucky enough to have one near you.

And 10850k is $399. 2 more cores for $70 is a pretty solid deal (vs AMD charging $149 for two ;D)

I'm currently staring down my microcenter shopping cart with an open box 9600k and z390 Aorus Pro WiFi for $315...

I could eBay my 6700k and z170x Gaming 7 and break even...

If I do it I will have leveraged COVID shortages to upgrade from a 6700k/Z170 mobo/1070ti to a 9600k/z390 Aorus Pro/3070 OC for only $150 over my used resale returns. Bonkers.

I may still go 9700k for $90 more since I don't like the idea of 6c/6t. But then that opens the can of worms of maybe I should just go 10600k and have an upgrade path to 11th gen...or maybe wait on a 5600x to finally cross paths with me. Decisions decisions.

I just sold a 6700k on eBay for 170 + 9 shipping minus 13% (10 eBay 3 PayPal), literally over the weekend. Shipped it out yesterday morning.

I'd say the 10600K that is $199 is the slightly better deal. 4 more threads.

The 10600K is close to the 5600x in games. You could always overclock the 10600K and surpass the performance in gaming of the 5600x. I don't think the AMD 5xxx series are very good overclockers. You'd save $100 bucks.
