I7 920 bottleneck?

I have 1 evga 570 sc and I ordered another just recently. I am afraid of bottlenecking as my processor is an i7 920. Should I be worried? Also I have 9gbs of memory. So I do not believe that will be an issue. Thanks!

Yes. Unless you're OC'ing it a lot, and even then you probably will have a bit of bottlenecking with such a setup due to the extremely high GPU power :). These tests are showing bottlenecking on an i7 920 vs. an oc'd one with a SINGLE gpu let alone multi.

...OK so in 5 games out of hundreds? Also how did they bench that? I find it hard to believe people can't play Civ5 on High at 1080p unless they have a fast i7. Those could be the absolute worst case scenario which very rarely pop-up. Hell even those Starcraft 2 numbers are off. I play it just fine at those settings when I play on my TV and it's just fine an d I'm only on an Athlon II x3 and a GTX 460.

It will be a bottleneck in the sense that it will be slower then an OC'd processor, but at stock the i7 is plenty.

What resolution are you playing at? If it's not 2560x1600 or higher, I wouldn't bother with SLI. Just keep the money for the next gen of cards and just overclock the shit out of your single 570..
 
I already bought the video card. Im fine with the bottleneck as long as I still see a performance boost. Ill,oc eventually. I just enjoy overkill. Am I still going to see performance boost with my sli even with the bottleneck? I have a 3d asus 120hz 1920 1080 monitor. Which is the entire reason im sli ing. Because I want to max out 3d. I get about 50 frames in bops and 45 in just cause 2. Metro gives me like 15 and I want 40 in metro and I want to max bops and just cause 2. I'm sure even with the bneck im going to manage that.
 
The main issue you will have has less to deal with than bottlenecking. Two GTX 570's is way overkill at that resolution. Seriously, one GTX 570 would be the sweet spot. With 2 of them you are just wasting money.
 
Lol. So I wasted money for like 20 more fps? In my eyes thats not a waste. Ill be set for years to come with this setup. Im ready for crysis 3 and 4 ;)
 
@Perilous - You loss half the performance as 2D when running 3D. I have nearly the same setup as the OP and can verify that 3D is a major resource hog. Doubling frame rate in most cases is not over kill (even at 1080p), especially when you can turn everything on and not have to worry about minimum frame rates.

People also forget that multi GPU setups keep you in the game a lot longer than a single GPU setup. And with the way things are going we'll have plenty of overhead since so many games are console ports...lol.

Another vote for OCing the CPU.

If you are still on the stock cooler go get a Cogage TRUE spirit for under $40. It will be well worth it.
