ok, got this i5 4690k. My main rig is the one in my sig. I am overclocked at 4.2 with HT on....but I'm curious about the 4690s performance overclocked for comparison's sake. I'm itching to take the 4690 (I have the 1150 board) but I'm not sure if it's worth giving up HT and two additional cores for higher overclock. Not only that, wouldn't double channel memory also hinder performance. I know I sound like I'm answering my own question here but I'd like some input. I do love my xeon.....no doubt there :)

Advice?

I'll approach this from a different perspective. I'd look at starting to sell off your "old" equipment while it still has value.

Technically, your rig is likely "faster" in some situations, and "slower" in others depending on the OC on that 4590 (mine did ~4.4Ghz or so). It really comes down to how the programs your using are coded. Double vs. triple channel memory is the same way. If you're using a program that is designed to use a higher memory bandwidth, then your current rig will perform better. Most of the time, you won't notice a difference.

Depending on what 1150 board you have, you might be able to upgrade to Broadwell when it is released. Might be worth it.

Agree with above^ what you have is fine, but the 4690k has a fairly decent single threaded performance lead. If you video encode and such, a lot then no need to jump, if not then like the above poster stated sell off what you got and buy the 4690k. Unless of course money is no issue then keep the current setup for those multi-core processing needs and get the 4690k for the singlethreaded/gaming fun.
