Get the 256 9800 if you can. It may or may not be necessary in the near future with DX9 games and more detailed textures but it couldn't hurt. It's only $40 more and since I just returned my $300 9800 pro 128 to Best Buy I'm waiting on a $342 9800 pro 256mb from newegg (free shipping).

I can live with the slightly higher price (whopping $20) so it's not a bad deal for me. If you can swing it I might suggest you try to do so.

edit: Alternatively, if you have to get the video card I think you can get a 9800 pro 128 AIW for less than the combination of the 9800 pro and a tv tuner, just shop around. Maybe even newegg can do that. Dunno.

I also haven't heard great things about the cooling from the Xaser cases, but I'm not really sure. Read up on it.

Who said anything about paying one off with the other. I just charged them both up. I may actually have to have my kid do some modelling type stuff to pay off my bills. (btw. he's 3 years old and has had someone from a modelling agency after him since he was born) I just don't feel like exploiting my kid though.

well i currently am employed at bestbuy so if they are coming out with the 9800 256 there i'll just pick up with my discount... :D ... but i'll probably just get it at new egg, prices are usually cheeper!

i went crazy on newegg 3 weeks ago, i grabbed p4 2.6c with ht and pc3200 512 ddr ram and 400w antec psu and abit is7-e motherboard... i had gotten the radeon 9800 pro 3 months earleir from newegg...

The 9800 pro 256 has been out for a while and is in fact hard to find. Ive never noticed a best buy carrying them.

i dont want to be rude, but what is it with all these people buying expensive video cards and RAM and mobos that are going to be almost obsolete by Q3 2004?

PCI-Express and DDR-II mobos with the new chipsets will become the standard fairly soon, save your money!! myself, i'm going to keep my stodgy old 9700 pro until summer at least, when i'll start purchasing the new shite /me crosses figures and prays that the prescott o/c's like a bat out of hell



and dont forget the new BTX standard........

personally i think your RAM is overkill. you would probably do better to have bought pc3200 or pc3500 with tight timings because i dont think you can get tyhe FSB on that proc close to 1000 mhz
 
Looked good until the RAM and case. I wouldn't have gotten OCZ ram, maybe Corsair or Mushkin instead. The case should have been a Lian-Li. But looks like you're happy and this system should last you for a while. Good Luck!
