sadly enough you won't be able to keep that extra bill in your pocket:n3g471v3 d3c1b3l said:I seriously think that $1300 for 2 8800gtx sounds a little high.... $1200 at most... lol
Dew said:Or, wait another 6 months till the 8900GTX is released and the 8900GTS might be on par or even faster than the 8800GTX given NVIDIA's recent history. Personally, I'm dumping my 7900GT SLi and getting a single 8800GTX(I'm done with SLi, too many things to screw with and it has some quirks, like lack of dual monitor).

You can buy a card for $20 if you want, go ahead. It won't change anything. Anyway, we should consider ourselves lucky in the GPU market because price always drops and relatively fast compared to any other non tech product. Although, I tend to buy them at their highest priced point. (I just pretend like I am leasing them because when calculated my last 3 SLI GPU purchases were all of the highest end during launch and I only paid $50-60 a month when extrapolated after I sold the cards)

I wouldn't say that. Typically using Crossfire or SLi is pretty easy. Unless your a salad headed moron. The performance offered by it can be useful for those of us who want massive AA and AF, even if we don't have ginormous displays.
In two words: too bad.I want G80 SLi but not to spend $1,300

I'll give an irl example.... I'm running 2 7800GT CO SE's right now. I play most of my games at 1280x960, but I get to max out everything when it comes to AF and AA (or HDR lighting). And I don't suffer with chop. Evar!
I think that 1 8800 series will be fast enough for just about any game out there now. Give the game devs a while, and I'm sure we'll be seeing games that will really benefit with 2 of them in SLI.

I want a house, but I don't want to spend $400k on it. Help!
I want a new TV. But I don't want to spend $3k on it. Help!
These are all decisions we choose to make. There's no "help" to be had. It's either worth it to you or it isn't.

QFTAGAIN.Dan_D said:That is my feeling as well. I would like a BMW 6 series, but I won't spend the money on it. Therefore I don't want it "that" bad.
I do however want a 30" Monitor and dual G80's. Therefore, I'll have it and damn the cost.
It's all about priorities and how much you actually want something.
If you can't afford it, that's different.

To the OP, I echo alot of the sentiments here. You don't wanna pay the price then I'm afraid your shit out of luck. You want something, you can afford it, you buy it. You can't really want it that bad if your not willing to pay the going rate.
Stick me on the 7 series SLi bandwagon who can plow through games maxxed out 1680x1050 already and not break a sweat. The same bandwagon that will not buy a DX10 card and pay for the privilege when DX10 games aren't gonna be mainstream until at least the refresh.....maybe even after.
Seriously dude, just hook up a cpl of 7900GTX's/GTO's or x1900's and wait till games are out that will use this new tech.

Another nice thing about having SLI is, you get double the money back from selling your old cards on eBay! Making that next gen that much more affordable.
Did that with my 6600GT's, going to do it with my 7800GT's, and going to do that with whatever the heck I get next.
DogChainX said:LOL...the key words here are first "having SLI"
SLI will always cost twice as much as a single card. Buying or selling, you're still dealing with two cards.
The answer is quite simple really, I want to be able to drive my 24" monitor at 1920x1200 with maximum settings on all games (past and present). If SLI will allow me to run Call of Duty 2 (single player) or Oblivion with maximum eye candy without ever experiencing choppiness, then it's worth it to me.madgun said:what games do you want to play on the G80 SLi, or is it just the numbers game, like my e-penis is bigger than yours OMFGOMGOMGOMG and i 'm soooo 1337 ....
