Dude wait two weeks, new nVidia graphics cards and ATi cards are out so soon!

mm haha ok maybe i got in over my head. i meant maybe 10k.

i changed to the intel motherboard and crucial memory. about the processor, what should i get. i play poker mainly and would like the option of playing any game. would u recommend anything?

I've just picked up a Skulltrails MoBo and a couple of E5450's.
Match that up with 8 Gb of DDR2-800 FB ram and a couple of 10k hard drives.
I'm hopeing to overclock them to ~3.6 Ghz.
I'm useing an old 3870 vid card at the moment but will add a new vid card once it gets released.
A nice small system ........... :p

Luck .......... :D

A sick system for poker?
What other games do you plan on playing, and at what settings/resolution?
What size monitor do you have?
What else will this system be used for?

Did you just go to Newegg and pick the most expensive of everything?

RAID 1+0 of four WD 640GB AAKS HDD's will give you insane speed, redundancy, and a little over 1GB of capacity.

QX9770 beats the QX9650.

I'd rather not get involved in the rest.

no games specifically, i would just like the option of playing everything in maximum resolution at highest settings. plus i can write this whole thing off on taxes :D. right now i have 2x24" monitors, but im thinking of upgrading to 2x30".

and i kind of did just go through newegg looking at some of the higher end parts. i havent built a computer in 2.5 years like i said and i have nfi what is current. ive also never built intel etc.

why get the 640gb hard drives? afaik they are 7200rpm and just 640gb am i missing something? i dont mind getting 10 or 15k rpm hdds here, possibly as a 2nd or 3rd drive, but i know nothing about that stuff. i have only ever used 7200rpm bigger drives. im a noob :D.

anyway so updated list:

oops ill delete the video cards and wait the 2 weeks. ridiculously inconvenient timing for that tho.

To add to the post above: That Velociraptor needs to be "adjusted" by Tim The Toolman Taylor!

what games do you plan on playing? a system like that would be overkill for everything but crysis even at 2x 2560x1600 res. not that overkill's a bad thing :D

but if you just wanna do work and play poker...you could do that on a pentium 1 running Windows 3.11 or a P3 running win2k for sure.

Id get the Lian Li PC V2110 instead, this system is going to produce a lot of heat (maybe not while you are playing poker though). But of course if you insist on a miditower...

The Auzentech X-fi Prelude ...for those high res poker sounds ;) (and music).

Raid consisting of VelociRaptors should be good... :D ...plus a serious storage array of 4 x 1TB Samsung F1´s, Hitachi A7K1000´s ..or Seagate ES.2´s

Id also go for two PSUs as someone mentioned already...

This system is for playing poker?! Glad I'm not a cockroach in your house - you'd probably buy a cruise missle to get rid of me.

BTW, who's going to build this for you? :)

Seriously. If you're not just screwing around here, this will be a somewhat time consuming and intricate build if you want to do it right.

Most home-builders do it themselves to get a mid-to-high range system at a reasonable price. If you want the bleeding edge and have money to burn, why not let the pro's do it for you? Alienware will be happy to deliver the following for a mere 9K plus change. Of course, most of us could build a system that will perform 90-95% as well for 20% or less of that price, but apparently that's beside the point.

Well if you really want the cutting edge why not wait till Q4 of this year or early 2009 and pick up one of the latest intel cpu's the day they're released? This really is overkill for poker though.

i know its overkill, but i can write the whole thing off on taxes so w/e. u guys should be encouraging degenerate behavior btw :).

i dont mind having somebody else build this, but i wasnt sure where to go. i was actually about to buy dell before somebody convinced me otherwise. if anybody wants to build this for me, pm me and lets set something up.

tyty

LOL!

Nah, we like to be a bit more responsible when it comes to other people's money. Hence why you rarely see people buy ridiculously overkill rigs that offer very little performance increase over significantly cheaper rigs after they ask for advice here in General Hardware. Just our way of showing that one does not need spend +$2000 on a new gaming PC when $1000 or even $750 gaming PC is more than enough.

Anyway, wait for the new cards to come out and see how they perform.

My critic of the build so far ............

1, You have an ATX case with an EATX MoBo. It wont fit.

2. the MoBo runs a quad channel memory bus but you only have two sticks. Up it to four stick to maximize your memory through put.

3. Unless your after the unlocked multi to try for 4.0 Ghz (10x400), the E5450's may be a better bet.
Hopefully I can run my E5450's at 3.6 Ghz (400x9 ).
Plus they only use 80 watts vs the 150 watts of the QX9775's.

4. Its a dual CPU system. You'll need to buy a second waterblock.
Or if you run the QX9775's maybe a second ZALMAN Reserator XT .......... :p

5. PSU. Read the [H]'s reveiw of it Here.
Not very good.
Also you'll probably need something like This for the second 2x4 aux power socket.

Apart from that, not bad.

Luck ........... :D
