I remember why folding makes me miffed sometimes.

I've had two NVidia gtx 260 cards sitting for a whole day that have not been able to download new material to process from Stanford. Twenty-four hours of wasted processing power. It keeps rolling, attempt after attempt hitting 171.64.122.70 and 171.67.108.11 with nothing... Restarted it many times with no real sucess.

Code:

I saw this over the weekend as well. I had not seen this in sometime.

My GPUs now have work. Try a reboot.

I see it all the time, but not to the extent that you are seeing. Usually 3 to 4 attempts and then it'll find something. Sometimes as high as 9, but I've never seen that many retries.

Yeah, it's irritating. I shut down my VM's and rebooted both machines this is happening on, but no such luck. My VM's work great, internet access is no problem, its just the GPU. I even deleted all the work and config info and started fresh on both, but it's still a problem. Wild thing is I have a 4850 in another box 6 feet away thats just been chugging along with no problems.

<sigh> Good thing I've got a few SMP's rolling along out of VM's. At least I can still contribute *something* ;)

I was wondering what was happening. I almost formatted my pc. I actually googled for the server's ip, sorted by date, and it took me to this thread. heh I have like 6 units in queue per gpu.

Must a sever that is down.... I'm good, all 10 of my clients are up.

brother Axdrenalin, just remember the ole' saw. It's much better to be "pissed off" than to be "pissed on" ;) Plus, unless you're in a wet suit, it's also a lot dryer :D

DCing for the CURE

Hehe...thanks for keeping thing in perspective JWS. :) I figured out what the issue was (finally) and got things straightened out. It was all firewall related apparently. As soon as I opened things up a bit it has worked well on both machines. It still doesn't make much sense that the ATi GPU has been sending and receiving packets without issue, but this affected both my NVidia GPU's (for the record, I'm running single cards in three different machines, 2x 260GTX and 1 4850).

I just added a 8800GT today, and am looking at adding another 8800GT tomorrow if I can get time to add it to one of my boxen.

We need to add more "D", because "D" is always the correct answer!!! :D

Ax - What is the PPD like on the 4850? I'm trying to decide if it would be better to run my 8800GTS or my 4850 for the CC.

I just loaded up FAHSpy on it to check, and it showed up at around 3008 PPD on a stock 4850. It's running on a mildly OC'ed Q6600 @ 2700 running on Ubuntu 8.10 VM that runs SMP. Nothing major - it's a box that I've put together for a friend of mine and I'm using it to fold with until he brings in the $$$. I figure that it's a decent hardware stress test while I'm waiting. ;)

EDIT - Showing 3060 PPD at the moment. I guess it will change up or down as the frames gets processed.

Which version of the GTS? The 512MB model will have considerably better output than a 4850, whereas the 320MB or 640MB models will probably have only slightly better output (although probably still higher nevertheless). In any case, the nVidia card would most likely be the better choice.
