I need some help with upgrading my PC

Hello everyone!

I was hoping you guys could help me with upgrading my system.

currently i've got a
asus striker extreme motherboard
2 x 8800gtx in sli
2GB ram
and a E6600 processor
with a 750W power supply

i have around 500€ to upgrade my motherboard, cpu and memory and thought about something like this:

motherboard:
ASUS P8P67 EVO R.3.0 - 185€
ASUS P8P67 PRO R.3.0 - 170€ (i dont see any difference between those 2)

for the cpu:
i5-2500k - 193€

and memory:
G.Skill DIMM 8 GB DDR3-1333 Kit- 67€ (1,5V, 9-9-9-24 bei 1333 Mhz) (maybe 2 of them)

i'm not sure if the memory and cpu are compatible together.

Which 750W PSU do you have?

Additional questions:
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
6) Will you be overclocking?
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? Multiple PCI-E x16 slots? etc.

The main differences between the EVO and the PRO is that the EVO has a second NIC, onboard power/reset switches, a rear ClearCMOS switch, and a heatpipe heat sink in the center of the motherboard.

The RAM and CPU are compatible.

im not sure about the power supply, since i cant look right now

1) I am mainly going to use the pc for gaming and video editing/3d modelling.
6) I was planning to overclock just a little
7) 24" + 2x19" when im not gaming
8) I wanted to build to pc very soon since the memmory prices are very low atm.
9) I mainly need SLI support and 3x PCI-E x16 slots for my 8800gtx's and a soundcard

Should i get the PRO or the EVO in your opinion?
 
Get the Pro version of the card.

Why do you plan on sticking with the 8800GTXes?
 
Next question: When are you planning to buy the new card(s)?

Also: Which sound card do you have now?
 
uhm, when i got money again, so it could be some months.

i've got this asus soundcard that was delivered with the mainboard
 
Find out what PSU you have. Otherwise, it might be a waste of time upgrading.

I agree. If the OP has a "generic" 750W PSU or a 750W PSU that's known to be shitty, it is a waste of time. I'd strongly recommend getting a new PSU, in that particular case, since the shitty 750W PSU likely cannot handle anything at all modern (and barely passable at all for even an old single-core Pentium 4).
