Ok I know my PC is lower end but with my current card I have trouble running crysis. i do not plan on upgrading alot due to loss of job so this is what im stuck with.

what do you think without knocking my PC to much. what card can i get that wont bottleneck 2 much and run crysis.

I was planning on getting a 4890: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150368

My PC specs are as follows

Compaq
AMD Athlon™ X2 4450e+* dual-core 2.3
4GB DDR2 SDRAM
Acer 23inch h233h 1080p 1920x1080

that A64 X2 probably kills you equally hard, not much you can do there without blowing a lot of cash

honestly I'd go with a 4830/4770 or *maybe* a 4850, but realize the CPU could kill you on some titles

also, and I'm sure I'll get flamed for this evil, demonic suggestion, which is surely conceived in the depths of hell:

lower the game settings and resolution.

yeah i have a 9600gt oc right now but it doesnt do what i want it to. i know i got alot of factors that is holding me back but was wondering if upgrading to a 4890 would i be able to run crysis maxed or is my pc just to garbage to be able to achieve that

what resolution--erer nevermind..

yeah your pain point is your cpu - charge a retail 4890 at BB or something try it and see - if it works for you take itback.

9600GTOC should be able to handle it at that resolution if youre not doing AA or anything. upgrade your cpu first I'd say.

well i was also thinking that my power supply isnt giving it enough power to run it. ive been looking for a replacement. i got a dynex 400 watt wich hardocp review tests basicly said its a POS,

Run a lower resolution and save for important stuff, AKA food/shelter/fuel to get to a job when you find one...

Your CPU is holding you back. But since you don't sound like you have the money to overhaul your system, a decent video card will help but only so much. You'd probably be fine with a 4850/4870. If you can get lots of discounts on the 4890 go for it, but realize that you won't see its full power with the cpu bottleneck.

can a power supply hold back your video card? from what ive been told is that my PSU is garbage and needs something better. im running a dynex 400 watt wich hardocp rated could only handle about 200watts.

if switching power supplies to something more powerful could i see a difference with the way my current card runs?

for some reason it doesnt seem to run that great. it runs good but for some reason i feel like i might be shorting out this card by having such a crap psu

You have three things holding you back here :

1) CPU - Not much you can do here
2) PSU - For the kind of card you need to run Crisis, you need a very good 400w or an average 450w
3) GPU - Your best bet would be a 4850 but not the best manufacturer at your price range (HIS maybe ?)

If I were you, I would save my money for a better system. Good luck for your next job !

well, if your motherboard supports phenom II's I would suggest getting one of those. Zipzoomfly has a deal on OCZ 600 watt modular power supplies for 39.99 after $30 rebate which would run a 4890 no problem. So assuming you can stick a phenom II in there, you have around $100 for a phenom II 550 BE, $40 for a psu, and then the cost of a 4890 which can be had for around $150 if you shop carefully. That's like $300 without tax and shipping so you're looking at around $350 minimum....you can just throw the dynex in the trash pretty much.

If you dont wanna go through all that hassle, just get a 4850 depending on how much ram the 9600gt has. 384 or 768 are the good ones with 96sp, 512 or 1gb have only 48sp in which case I would recommend the upgrade. if you have the 96sp one, I would just leave the system alone because you wont see much difference between that and anything you stick in there.

it won't kill performance if its crummy, it'll just make the system unstable (so you get a lot of random reboots or crashes), especially as you increase the load

it can also lead to the PSU blowing up, which could damage stuff, but enough doom and gloom

honestly I'd just lower some settings and accept it, Crysis won't run "great" on anything you can likely afford to piece together (you'll end up spending a grand before its all said and done, imho no game is worth that by itself), just accept that its a losing proposition (simply because its Crysis ), and go with what you've got

you might consider replacing the PSU as an aside, just so you don't have a risky cheapseats unit powering your system

yeah ive come to terms that crysis to 2 harsh at the moment on my current system and i actualy Traded the gamefor call of duty waw and Im able to run it at 1920x1080 everything maxed no problems. with the exceptions of AA and those options.

I already ordered a new PSU antec earthwatts 430 recommended by hardocp users. thanks for the help and your right in my eyes np game is worth a grand alone
