I Highly Doubt This.....

Don't get your panties all in a bunch. I didn't notice the AF, the graphs just indicated AA.
And yes, I DO intend to run 16xAF, if I'm going to put down $600 for an 6800U I want full eye candy. And fuck bragging rights, bragging makes the presumption that I give a crap about other people...I don't.

You don't care about me?

Do you put out? :D

P.S. Typing this while trying to keep a straight face was...interesting.

I got nothing. At all.

(will you make me waffles in the morning?)

the review is about a 6800 ultra against a Pro not a XT. The result will be different when put against a X800XT.

You gotta love nVidia's cheating team. I mean drivers team.

Some days i wonder if they havn't finally learned to cheat even better then the team ATI has working for them :).

Yea the 6800 ultra will only be ahead by 10-20% then instead of 30-40% against the X800Pro :).

There are rumors floating around that nVidia is getting ready to release another driver update that will boost performance even more.

If Nvidia did what I think they did with the AF then its not cheating.

For some crazy (I would prefer to call it stupid) reason, Nvidia felt it necessary to pre-filter their AF so as to add a smoothing effect. Taking out the filter should add a hefty performance increase and visual quality increase.

It isn't like HOCP is completely unbiased (whether they mean to be or not) in their reviews. Still good reviews, but cmon, who really uses 16xAF?

I do.
I never use AA though. It is so overhyped, with large performance decreases.

Hahaha like usual if nvidia does anything it's instant cheating.

I wonder if anyone realizes the image quality tests from the original set to the newest set of drivers are exactly the same, just preformance increases, who would'a thunk it.. pre beta drivers not preforming as fast as the newest drivers? Such cheaters.

While i agree its a bit much for them to run out and say it its not as if Nvidia doesnt deserve to be scrutinized. They will be for a long time still aswell. Infact last gen may still cost them a sale with me.

The Hardocp review is almost 6 weeks old. There is no point in trying to figure out what's wrong, it's the old drivers they used and the early card they recieved. If I were them I would run it all again with new drivers, and try to get a new 6800u as well if I could.

Personally I think this issue (which card is better) is not worth arguing...

The cards have almost the same raw power (pipelines, ram speed, etc.) numbers (6800u vs x800XT-PE)... why argue?
The cards both have been tested with drivers that are definitely handicapping them... Why argue?
The cards both have graphics enhancing features (ps 3.0 vs. 3dc) that may both become standards, or only one of which may be a standard, or neither of which may really make it (Longhorn and ps 4.0 may be out before 3.0 really catches on, so it may actually never catch on much with developers, who knows?).... so why argue?

Finally, Both cards DEMOLISH any game out there today, and will do so for probably atleast another year (and then you MAY have to turn AF down, or do 2xAA, OH NO!). They can both run pretty much everything at 1600x1200, 4AA, 8AF (even early versions of Doom3 and HL2 are getting 100+ FPS on these cards at the above settings!!!!!) and still give you anywhere from 45 to 150 fps average.... WHY ARGUE?

Face it, anyone who has an x800pro/XT or a 6800GT/U is going to be happy as a friggin clam with their performance in every game for atleast a year and probably for 2. Both cards are the biggest single leap forward in performance for the industry in years (about 100% increase over the 9800XT average). Game developers are going to have a hard time catching up, and that means these cards will have more staying power than almost any card before them. So....

WHY ARGUE???

How can you compare 3Dc to DX9.0c? Wait until nVidia's next card has it (ATI made it open standard), then what will ATI have?

You can tout image quality and AA/AF speed, but really there isn't much difference at all in the image quality/speed catagory. It is all about features and drivers IMO, and nVidia just comes out on top this go around.

That statement goes both ways

Why would you say saomething like this when the extra features on the cards this round will have an impact on speed or image quality?

How much does the 6800ultra cost vs the 800xt ? isnt it like 200.00 dollars more ? if so I will get the 800xt because they are both fantastic cards.

Can't we all agree that they're both great cards to own? I mean come on! The difference in FPS is by a few frames! Do we really need to fanboy these cards to death? Hell I'd like to see pressure put on NV to get the card to retail with some good numbers on the shelf first before I hear "this is better then this!" crap!

See some people get it.

Arguing about which of these cards is better is like arguing who could beat you up faster, Super-man or Thor. Either way the result is the same, about 2 seconds after they get pissed off you are a bloody spot on the ground and they are in a bar knocking back a beer (or rootbeer in Superman's case).

I'm reminded of that episode of Family Guy were Peter dies (again) and goes to hell finding Superman there playing poker. LOL :D

everyone does know, well most people, about the trilinear -> bilinear forced thing that nvidia does.
not anymore, in 61.34 all of nvidia's texture filtering opts can be disabled in the driver menu, and the options really work. (I.E. when you disable tri opts, they really are disabled, same for aniso opts) the new brilinear NVIDIA has is leaps and bounds above the old one anyways, not really noticible at all anymore.

WHY ARGUE???

This is the video card forum of [H]. Asking "why argue?" is like going down to a track meet and asking the athletes "why run?" Because it's fun, we're bored, and it's what we do. :D

They might have also tested them in an nForce 3 motherboard; NV cards will significantly benefit in an nF3 mobo.
What are you smoking?

WTF is wrong with you? Thor is nothing compared to Superman. I mean, X-Ray vision, flying powers, a hot lady friend? What else could you ask for? Thor has what, his hammer? I'd say the comparison would be better between Superman and Batman. :) :)

I thought anand was fair too until they 'reviewed' intel vs amd procs. it was pure rant. ive not gone back since.

go research before you take out the flamethrowers, they extolled none of the virtues, but all of the flaws of the AMD at the time, but extolled all of the virtues and none of the flaws of intel at the time. unbiased? yeah right.

err...i dont know what comics you guys read, but thor with his hammer, hes practically invincable. and without it, hes still a hard match for superman. hes a GOD. you dont see wolverine trying to take out zeus.

wow this got off topic lol.

Thor has an advantage, hes got the lightning bolt hammer so he can pretty well fry the Hulk at 50 yards.

Mind you, if the hulk lifted up a tank and threw it at Thor, hed pretty well be a grease-spot.
