I have a 9200 AIW, and San andreas and the BF2 demo does not work. It crashes right after all the logos are done....and the screen is black and the computer stops responding...

HL2 and all its games worked perfectly. I used teh Catalyst 5.6 and the omega drivers after formatting my hdd from swapping cards (GF4 mx440). I don't know why but I believe it's the drivers...does anyone have some of the old ones i can try out?

BF2 doesn't support Radeon 9200s and it doesn't exactly exit in a graceful fashion. Lot's of people are complaining about it on various forums so maybe EA will allow it to run at some point. BF2 will run on 8500s and 9200s are just cut-down versions of 8500s so it should be able to work if a bit slowly.

From their readme file:

Battlefield 2 only supports the following video cards:

Radeon X700 (PCIe)
Radeon X600 (PCIe)
GeForce 6600 (PCIe)
GeForce PCX 5900 (PCIe)
GeForce 5800 Series (AGP)
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition
ATI Radeon X800 PRO
ATI Radeon 9800 Series
ATI Radeon 9600 Series
ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX)
ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series
ATI Radeon 8500 Series
ATI Radeon X300 Series
NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
NVidia GeForce 6800 GT
NVidia GeForce 6800
NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series

When I hear of this type of problem I always come to think of this Webpage

Terra - It's says it all...

1. I don't have a manual, this was a used card
2. I properly followed each installation step of the card and game corressponding to their
rightful sites.
3. There are no directions to follow for this case, hence coming to the forum to seek help
(which you obviously failed to do).

Anyone else isn't as ignorant as Terra have a solution?

Hey man, that 9200 is pretty old, and Deffinalty wasnt even top of the line when it came out. It was meant to be a budget chip.

I dont expect any new games to support this card. New meaning new generation... BF2, Unreal 3.0 engine. etc etc

Read the README.TXT that came along with the game...
As #UncleMacro pointed out, the game DOSN'T support your 9200 GFX-card!!!
Wich means you will NOT be able to play that game with your current GFX-card...

And if you had bothered to RTFM, then you would have know this...

Terra - But thanks for proving my point ;)

Terra Terra Terra....

As I said earlier, i followed the directions and used the corresponding sites to find out all the information I need. Obviously you can't read for shit, since the 9200 is supported by BF2. Who said I wanted to run it full blast? I just wanted to have minimum settings and test out the gameplay. The fact that it doesn't even load to the start screen tells me something is wrong...and i'm here to ask those people with more knowledge.

And if you had bothered to RTFPBY (read the fuckin post before you), then you would have know this...

eKOrazn - But thanks for proving my point ;)

The 9200 supports the same featureset as the 8500 so I really don't see how it wouldn't work if the 8500 does. Your issue could be the refresh rate problem, in which if you are using any program to lock your refresh rates, you have to disable the program and allow battlefield 2 to access the full range of refresh rates for your card.

I don't see your answer too him?
I can give you a hint:
The 9200 isn't supported by BF2...

Terra - Reality bites..and NOT reading the readme.txt is not a wise course of action before asking for help...

What do you know, Terra has been a bad boy and hasn't RTFPBY (read the fuckin post before you)...

Taken directly from the EA site "ATI Radeon 8500 or greater" for the minimal requirements....

I have my bases covered, do you? Now just stop digging your own grave and either leave this thread or actually read this thread and answer the question.

I understand that you are right in this thread. And thats all good.

But I do not appricate people disrespecting the country I am fighting, and willing to die for.

:)

But anyway... the 9200 Is old... you need a new card.

I can't agree with you more. But that's not the problem, it doesn't run these games PERIOD. I'm more concerned about San Andreas than BF2, I only put up BF2 as a test. My MX440 played San Andreas fine, yet this card can't even get through the logos...

Alright well.. Use Driver cleaner (seach it out) and remove all the drivers... then

Get some old drivers here... take your pick
www.downloads.guru3d.com
And their they have an archive of all the old drivers... Just Get like 5.2s and see how they work... if it fixes your problem. cool. let us know... dont be affraid to remove and install as many drivers as you want to see if its a driver issue... be sure to run driver cleaner though!!!

Also! BF2 might not work at all because if the game dosent support it, it wont even go into it. It will be looking to initalize a certain protocol of direct X or something that your card does not support...

I can understand that, but no way I am gonna let a n00b use the fact that I am European against me...combined with another stupid remark about dental hygine....especially when I'm right...
I was simply replying to an offence...like it or not...

Terra - I have done 2 tours in Former-Yugosolavia, so don't pull the "die for one's country" on me...no offence...

Sometimes it can be hard to figure out what people mean ;)

Terra - Last post in this thread..it should die...

Good luck on getting your card to work with BF2 but it looks like you are SOL.

Hito Bahadur - Get off of Terra's case. He had every right to make the comment about illiterate Americans after the uncalled for European statement. In almost every country I have been in we have had our European allies fighting right along side of us.

Terra crapped my thread after you pulled that RTFM crap on me. He's being ignorant and being very stereo typical-american like for a european. How the hell would he know if i had or hadn't read the manual. He just assumed since he himself has no clue on what's going on.

My question is why the 9200 won't work for San Andreas. I just put up BF2 as another game that doesn't work (it will work with 9200's, i have friends who can play it). I'm confused since my mx440 was able to play San ANdreas, and the 9200 can't (and for sure it's a better card directx 8.1 vs. 7.1).

That just comes down to programming. Since the 8500 works and 9200 is the same architecture on a hardware level would should also work. I havent seen anyone mentioning problems playing it a 9200s exclusively however keep in mind it is a very buggy game and I have seen people having problems playing it on numerous graphic cards.

UPDATE apparently bf2 will run on a 9200 if you set AGP to 4x in smartgart

While you may have a point regarding how Terra responded to the Thread , your statement was not in compliance with forum rules and was bad form (two wrongs dont make a right)

Ignorant stereotypical comments like that beget similar responses and end-up causing a lot of bad-feeling. Here's a tip - use a 'wink' emoticon next time to show you're not being serious (like Terra did). That way you're creating humour and not offence. :)
