I cannot OC my system worth shit. Is it my RAM?
 
could be. run a divider and find out (the CPU : DRAM setting in the BIOS)
 
What have you tried so far?

What happens when you attempt to OC? Does it post? Does it boot to Windows? What are the temps?
 
drop the ldt down to 4x, some boards hate going above 1000mhz hyper transport, then see if you can oc. im betting that ram can do ddr430 atleast.
 
Try setting your ram to CAS 3, you're running Cas 2.5 at 200mhz, it's rated for CAS3 at 200mhz.

When I attempt to OC any further than what you see above, the machine refuses to boot and I have to reset the mobo.

What is ldt?
 
I tried running the divider. It initially went dead, then booted up into a "safe mode" screen and told me to reset the OC.
 
I had that same memory, and I could NOT drop the cas on it at all....goofy ass instability. But, at the stock timings of 3-3-3-8 I got it up to 223MHz (DDR446) with two sticks. :)

actually drop it to 3x with a s754 board.
 
Are you suggesting I lower the HT frequency? My bios freeze when I try to access it.

I'm on an MSI K8n Neo Plat btw.
 
Press + and - to fix that....I had this exact same problem that I couldn't overclock over 207MHz.

Raise your CAS on your memory to CAS3, use + and - to drop your LDT to 3, reboot, and try again.
 
Forgive me for being a newb, but what exactly will lowering it do?
 
More or less? Nothing....it's performance doesn't really seem to effect anything. Just trust me....if you get your board working at 3x when it locked on you, you might be able to bring it back up to 4x and get it working (i did anyway).

Speaking of which, what BIOS version are you running?
 
Yeah, I can't change it. The shit freezes when I select HT Freq.

I'm running the latest bios: v1.6
 
Don't select it, just highlight over it like you were gonna go past it, then press - until it's 3 (might be once, might be twice if there's a 3.5x in there).
 
k. I lowered it to 3...and I'm at 218fsb atm. 220 was giving me blue screens. What if I were to increase my RAM voltage, or something? Would that provide for a better OC?

try throwing on the ddr333 divider and throwing the htt up to 245. you should be at like ddr400 speeds with that on.
 
what kinda motherboard do you have?? it might not have a pci/agp lock and thats why it wont let you do the whole past htt 225 thing
 
Set your AGP to 67MHz (I think this has been fixed, but 67MHz doesn't hurt anything and it assures you're locked).

Your memory might be bluescreening because it's running out of room....go into your DRAM options, and set your memory to 166MHz (if you diddn't already). Then start upping the FSB some more, see where that takes you....if you still error out, then you probably need more voltage and your overclock isn't stable anymore.
 
Okay, I set the AGP bit to 67 and increased my RAM voltage to 2.7. I'm now running at 220 and it seems fairly stable.

I have the MSI K8N Neo and a 3200+ Newcastle, here are my results so far.

Read that write up, it should answer alot of your questions. You're getting a lot of blue screens cause your Tras is too low. It's at 6, should be at 8 at least. Tras has negligible effect on performance, but it has alot on stability if you try to tighten it too much. 2.4Ghz is a good start, with some tweaking. What's your load temp on your CPU? Make sure you watch that, it should go above 50C :cool:
 
TRas isn't terribly important, but testing to find out it's best speed is important as it's free performance....look at mine, on my board (as shown to me by baron) it runs best at a TRas of 12, which is by no means low. :cool:

I have the same mobo and those might be the best results you're going to get.

My own research has shown numerous people unable to oc the msi k8n nf4 past the 11% barrier, which is what i'm experiencing. I've tried almost every possible combination of settings, but it will not run past that point.

Which is why I've stuck with using the core center app to oc my rig. I had instability problems with my previous p4 rig and am experiencing 100% stability and faster performance with my new AMD rig.
 
I have the NF3 version, and I have it running stable ( Haven't primed it yet, but haven't gotten any errors) at 2.5 CAS now (2.5, 3, 3, 6).

Now running at 225 with 2.5, 3, 3, 8 timings, 2.47ghz.
