Ordered a second 6970, that is...

I was hoping to avoid that, but I need just a little more "oomph" in eyefinity mode.

Hopefully, my 2nd card and longer Xfire bridges arrive the same day so I don't have to wait around to get everything installed.

bah...I didn't want a second card after experiencing the continuous noise of my GTX480s in SLI which, honestly, could only be described as "a never-ending nuclear detonation",

oh well...I'll deal with a little bit of extra noise

Sorry to Highjack, but what res are you running with the single card? and how does it run bfbc2?

I can't hear my GTX580s over the fans on my radiators (which are a low whoosh, not an annoying whine) so I'd assume the 6970s shouldn't be too bad.

I'm hoping that's the case with these. I do have a fan that supplies fresh air to the video card intake area so both cards should get lots of nice 68°F air, and the fan profiles in MSI Afterburner seem to work with the 6970s so I think I'll be okay...

Nothing will come close to my old Xfired 4870s with Scythe Musashi coolers on them though... :( I miss them, lol. Silent + 23k+ in 3dMark06 was a lot to give up for Eyefinity...

3600x1920 Eyefinity on three Dell 24s (Two U2410s and a 2408FWP)

I got paid to shoot people IRL so I don't play games like bfbc2 anymore.

That's basically been my experience as well. My GeForce GTX 580's are quieter than my Radeon HD 5970 was.

My 4870s were 17dB. One ran with 2 Scythe 100mmx100mmx10mm fans on low speed, and the other was passively cooled by the two 120mm fans at the top of my ABS Black Pearl case.

Comparing sound levels of any mfgrs current gen cards to those is futile. I just miss the option to use a cooler like that on these new generation cards and I'm hoping that Scythe comes out with an updated design, because the design for the 4870 was frigging awesome.
