Hi I just got a new computer up today and the BIOS needed to be setup.. So I heard that they are automatically setup.. So I saved everything and then started my computer.. It brings me to the BIOS screen again like I didnt do something.. I do not understand, so I made the main bootup device the CD-RW and put the windows xp disc in, it still brings the main BIOS screen up.. Please help I want this computer up lol.. =D Thank you.. Oh yeah my specs..

Abit AV8 Motherboard
Amd Athlon 64 3400+
Geforce 6600GT
Logisys 500 Watt PSU
2GB Ram 333mhz

Any suggestions?? If so please keep em coming.. Thank you!!!
 
Are you actually in the bios, or are you getting a screen that tells you to press a button to enter bios?
 
ok.. go into the bios.. there is something in there that says "change settings to default" basically there is "compatibility mode" and "performance mode" put it on compatibility/fool proof/default mode.. then hit f10 and click "Y" or click "save changes and exit"

since your original hard drive has windows XP you can't just take it from one computer and stick it in another, they did this to try to slow pirating of it, but it really creates more problems in the end.. you can either repair the original install, or reinstall it over the old copy..

so.. under, proably "advanced settings" i would say the 2nd or 3rd thing in the bios, go to "primary boot device", make it say "cd-rom".. then save your changes and exit..

this should make it so yo odn't have to go into the bios again.. if you do have to go into the bios, tell us what it says as the reason.. does the cpu show up as the correct speed? does all of the memory show up?

try starting the computer and not hitting del to enter the bios, and not holding insert while you start up... you should only do those things to enter the bios..
 
Well when I am in the bios I save/exit.. Restart my computer and then it keeps going to the screen that says "PRESS DEL TO ENTER BIOS SETUP."

EDIT:::: I tried turning the boot device to CDROM and I let it run and then it takes me t that "HIT DEL" screen again.. Ughh lol I appreciate you helping me.. Keep em coming..

DONT hit delete....thats only telling you what button to hit if you do want to change seomthing in there


just dont hit delete..it will continue past it
 
Well lol to tell you the truth, I only let it sit for like 10 seconds.. But I do not think it will pass this.. But let me tell you what I think real fast.. You knowe how you can make a profile for bios.. I think in my profile i have it to boot harddrive and in the normal bios menu i have it saved for cdrom.. How can I delete my profile?? I dont like what I named it either lol!!!!
 
When I first built my system, I had to set the fsb/dram ratio to 1:1 before it would go any further than where you are.
 
What should I set my Ratio to?? I never did that I left it default.. And how do I delete my "PROFILE" ??
 
let it sit for more than 10 seconds......if it sits there for over a minute you got a problem.....just wait a little bit longer than 10 seconds..
 
What should I set the ratio that kid was talking about before to??? He said that was why he couldnt get past what I was doin.. Ill try it..
 
1:1 is the ratio you should use...thats what he said..

bu try what i suggested first..you shouldnt have to change anything as long as the system turns on in the first place
 
ok.. i know on my computer.. if something isn't right.. it will say that you must enter the bios and fix the settings..

so that is why i asked if something didn't look right.. for example.. does your cpu speed show up correctly, does all of your ram show up? how about your hard drives?

now.. i could be wrong.. but on a lot of motherbaords you can hold the "insert" key while starting up your computer.. this will set the bios to default... otherwise click on "load fail-safe defaults" that is what i have tried to tell you before.. that should do the trick..

have you tried that yet?

I think I set mine to 5:5, anything that has both numbers the same should be fine.

I'd try what 4b5eN+EE suggested first, usually the easiest answer is the right one.
 
I tried having it on for about 3 minute.. It stayed there.. I made it the fail-safe defaults and then restarted my pc and it still will not boot up with my cd or anything.. I dont understand these computers lol..
 
Here is a picture of the screen where you set your ratio on an NF7-s, I'd imagine yours is similar.
 
Nice I know that screen!!!! So anyways.. Um.. What do i set it to? I have 2 sticks of ram which both equal up to 2GB 333MHZ Ram and Athlon 64 3400+ .. Thank you sooo much lol..
 
You trying to use a SATA HDD? Have you changed the boot order to Floppy, CD ROM, HDD, other? When you reboot hit Tab to see the POST test, it should say your memory is running at 333.
 
No, I do not use SATA HDD, but my order is CD ROM, Harddrive, Floppy because I need to boot to my xp disc so I can "Repair" my xp and go on my computer..

Yes, the RAM should be set to 333Mhz. I have the same board, it's in the Advanced Chipset Features Section under DRAM Configuration.
 
I am asking for the ratio.. Sohuld it be 1:1?? And I can't find where I add the ratio number!! Ughhh lol keep em coming....
 
There is no damn RATIO anywere in the the AV8 BIOS. Please do yourself a favor and RTFM.
 
yes......read up on your motherboard.....unless someone with that mobo can come in here and help then your SOL until you read the manual...
 
I read the manual.. I just don't know why everything is connected but the windows xp disk cannot boot.. OMG!!!!!!!!!

I do have that mobo and told him/her exactly where to go. But as usual when you offer someone help they don't listen to a fucking word you say.
 
OK still there is no reason I should return the motherboard.. If anything I need a new BIOS chip.. But something is just wrong.. When you installed your BIOS did your pc ever hang on the screen that says "PRESS DEL TO ENTER SETUP."???
 
Do yourself a favor and call a mom and pop computer shop and have them fix it. It sounds like you are in over your head.

1. When you enter the BIOS does it even recognize your HDD?

2. When you let it go does Windows try boot then gives you an error screen because of the old motherboard's drivers?

3. My AV8 was shipped with the most current BIOS.
 
you dont need a new bios chip......if you did, the computer wouldnt boot at all.....of course there are many things that can cause your computer to not do anything at all....

and do us all a favor and just let the computer sit at that "press del" screen for a while...just get up and leave.....then come back 5-10 minutes later just so we can eliminate the possibility of you just being impatient with your computer.......
 
I know for a fact that the BIOS I have are not the newest ones.. I will call Abit and get them to send me a new BIOS chip.. That's all..
 
well how do you know its not the newest if you cant even identify when you need a bios chip or not....

just do yourself a favor and listen to what major_a said about doing yourself a favor......
 
Ok my new problem is that it does not recognize my harddrives, If it would recognize my harddrives then my cd-rw would read my xp disc to install it on.. So I need my harddrives to be recognized.. Can I put the harddrive on IDE2 and CDrw and dvd rom drives on IDE1? It is just more efficent and closer to the hardware.. It will still work right? everything seems snug.. I dont understand why it is not recognizing it lol..
 
first off.....yes you can switch the connectors of teh HDD and CD-ROM

second...did you check the jumpers on the back of the HDD and CD-ROM?

third....just because your HDD isnt being recognized doesnt mean the CD wont boot up...unless of course the jumpers are set wrong........

read the manual on the HDD and CD-ROM.....it will tell you where and how the jumpers are gonna be setup

you want the HDD to be set as master and (if there on the same channel...in other words...plugged into the same chord...) then the CD should be slave....if there on two seperate chords then the CD should also be master......
 
Yes that has to be the problem , I do not have the manuals , but there is instructions the put the jumpers on , I can barely read them and I do not want to take all 4 drives out.. That will be a real pain in my crack..

lol wow, um ok well if you dont' have your jumpers set right, your never going to get any further than you are now. So i would check your jumpers and make sure they're set to Master/Slave on both the primary and secondary channels.

otherwise, have fun staring at the bios screen for all eternity :p

edit: check your HD manufacturer's site for jumper settings, they'll have them on their site somewhere.
