HTC Touch Pro 2

Wow, I didn't realize this was coming out so soon. I have AT&T so their version is called the HTC Fortress. My research shows a release somewhere between August and September.

Honestly it's not dramatically improved over the Touch Pro, sure it'd be nice to have it doesn't make the Touch Pro look horrible by any means. It's basically a longer screen and a tilted screen in terms of major changes that I can see. Same processor, same RAM.

Looks good, loved my Fuze since the day it came out. If they had upgraded the camera I might have considered getting this one too.

I owned a tilt and it died so they (att) gave me a fuze. I miss the tilt feature, but am more than happy with the phone. It is faster, has a better camera, better interface (touchflo could probably just be installed on the tilt though...) and has a flash light!

That was the first thing I checked on the Touch Pro 2 was for a light. Of course they took it off just like they did between the 8525 and Tilt. I can not even count the amount of times the light has saved me.

There aren't any solid dates

buts its 100% sure that tmobile is going to get it

80% on sprint
80% att
60% verizion

i think thats right

Aside from aesthetics, which I think favor the Touch Pro 2, it looks like it has better battery life, the set-on-the-table conference speakerphone feature, and the screen resolution is improved.

Does the first gen have the zoom bar? Do they have the same interface? I can't tell from the photographs if that is a different version of touch flo.

Yea the Touch Pro has the zoom bar but its the circle around the middle button that does it.

The screen is the same really it's just longer from what I can tell since it doesn't have the buttons the Pro does, taking you from 640x480 to 800x480. That would indeed be nice though.

All the companies will get it, it's a guarantee. It looks like Sprint and TMobile will be the end of June, Verizon and AT&T in October-ish

How much is this thing gonna cost? I have a Mogul now and am pretty tired of WinMo, thinking of going to the new iPhone. Maybe Android, but the iPhone looks like the best phone ATM.

With or without contract?

You're going to have having a softonly keyboard. trust me, i had a mogul and the TouchPro is a huge jump in performance quality and usefulness. The TouchPro2 will be even better :D

Sure if you want to be locked into being able to do only what Apple allows you to do. :p

Looks like AT&T is going to F with the keyboard again. Granted, that's probably not the final version (QWERTZ?). I would must prefer the stock unit's keyboard layout.

I just ran a quick Ebay search, and they are popping up. Allegedly GSM versions. Available for shipping tomorrow. Maybe we're closer to a US release than was let on? http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-TOUCH-PRO2-...66:2|39:1|72:1205|240:1308|301:1|293:1|294:50

Nevermind, he pulled the asterisk stunt. This is a Euro model. No US 3G.

I thought the touch pro 2 was gunna have a much higher res screen.. bummer was looking forward to upgrading to it from my touch pro.

Well seeing that it went from 480x640 (Touch Pro) to 480x800 (Touch Pro 2) I'd say that is a decent little bump. More importantly the 3.6" screen of the TP2 versus the 2.8" screen of the Touch Pro. But there is plenty of other things that are interesting about this phone that it looks like a decent upgrade. I currently have a busted Sprint Mogul with a cracked screen (touchscreen no longer works) so I am limping along until this phone comes out.

So far from sprintusers.com and ppc geeks, the rumors are still active.. As far as a Sprint release date:

Rumor 1: Some are still hoping for a mid June to late June release.
Rumor 2: Some have written that off because the HTC Snap is coming out on Sunday. They seem to think it is going to be closer to mid July, maybe even late July
Rumor 3: Some people are taking the pessimistic route saying it will be late September.

Fact: Sprint's roadmap says Q3 for the Touch Pro 2. So no matter what, unless there is an official delay, we will see the Touch Pro 2 in between July 1st and September 31st. Any earlier is possible but not very likely.

for other providers I am not sure. Some people seem to think T-Mobile will be the first with sprint following second and then Verizon after that.

According to tmonews.com T-Mobile will release the touch pro 2 on July 22nd. My contract expires early July so I am rather eager to pick one of these up.... 480x800 sounds excellent compared the the iphone, palm pre res of 320x480... not sure how I feel about winmo but the TP2 is designed for WinMo7 which should be a vast improvement.

WinMo gets a far worse rap then it deserves. It's no different then the mac vs pc debate. I prefer the ability to fully modify the OS on my phone much like windows as opposed to being limited by the OS and having almost no options. I'll easily take some quirks here or there to enjoy that ability, same with Windows. It's flexibility, which is pretty much the cause of the trouble, is also it's greatest asset.

If its 400$ before contract that would make my month, otherwise I might get the Diamond2

Can't wait for this phone to hit the market. I will get it first thing. I love my Touch Pro/Fuze now, but the TP2 is drool worthy and will redirect my angst against getting an iPhone 3GS.

Does this Touch pro 2 or the Diamond 2 even come close to comparing to the iphone? I have had Verizon for 15 years (since GTE) and I am about ready to ditch verizon and go with the iphone. Should I even considering waiting for a new phone from verizon or should i jump ship.

Of course a 3gs commercial just came on as I typed this, its a sign!

Even the original HTC Touch Pro is ahead of the iPhone in terms of features and functionality...

well last year before i signed on AT&T for 2 years to upgrade my original iPhone to the 3G, i decided to give the Touch Pro a try on Sprint, and i gotta say the phone was much better in the pictures, well at least for me anyways. My first issue was how everything wasnt as unified as the iPhone, but i guess thats because i used my iPhone as my ipod also, so i got used to being able to listen to music and watch video without a hassle. The only plus id give to the touch pro in that area is the wider array of files it could playback without much changing. The next issue i had was getting content on the phone, mainly applications to pass time like games. Now im not saying there wasnt a lot, there was, but finding good games wasnt that easy, and since WinMobile is ran on a variety of devices, the games and applications might not be optimized for the phone, such as the use of the touchscreen. My next issue was the web browsing. Not to say its bad, but compared to the ease of use on the iPhone, none of the browsers i could find, and trust me i tried a few, could compare to the iPhone's. And lastly, my issue was battery life. I tried using custom roms and doing all the changes to help the phone run better, but after just a 2-3 hours of use the phone would be very close to dying, which turned me away since i could use my iPhone for hours on end on max brightness and still have battery to spare.

Now im not trying to say the Touch Pro is a bad phone, though it does seem like it, its just that to me, it couldnt compare to the unified-ness and ease of use of the iPhone. But if not compared to the iPhone, id say the Touch Pro is the next best phone on the list, but personally, i think you should just jump the boat and get the 3GS, you won't regret it :D

The poor phone has windows mobile 6.1, what a shame. If anyone is considering this i would wait until 6.5 comes out or just go for something else that does not have 6.1.

im thinking it will be soon, to be close to the launch of the Blackberry Tour on Verizon in two days

how much res do you want on a fuckin 3.5" screen

I fuckin want as high as possible, the less scrolling side to side and up and down the better. resolution happens to be important to me, if you don't care thats good for you.
