Will a HQ DVI cable make any improvements to a 22' LCD comparing from what the manufacturers ship as Samsung.

Unless you're getting artifacts or something similar, a digital signal is a digital signal... I've yet to see a difference. The cables might fall apart, pins bend or break, things like that... but that's all that can really make a difference.

The truth has been spoken

What you want is a monster cable. Youll really be able to tell the diffrence over that digital DVI signal, those gold connectors pass the ol 0s and 1s so much better.

Failing that set fire to some money.

Hi All,

If you're thinking about buying a DVI cable get it from monoprice.com. Here's the link http://www.monoprice.com/home/

You work for them or something? Looks like an advertisement.

I'm highly skeptical that monster hasn't been selling everyone high priced snake oil for years. Got any proof of this better passing of 0's and 1's?

As long as it's insulated and has ferrite cores on each end it's all good. The DVI cable that came with my 225bw is not the best insulated, but I've had no problems at all. Using it on my Soyo 24" at the moment.

edit: oh and monoprice's cables are more expensive than newegg's... that's kinda sad.

I think there might be some differences. An $80 cable have better material in it and that can improve things. I tested a low quality network cable to a more expensive one. And with the more expensive I had much lower ping on the tests I did.

I read something about a console, I don' t remember fully if it was Playstation, but they pointed that the connectors where so bad or good I really don't remember that the DVD quality was really bad on any screen or good, just because of the input connectors.

I would question how long the CAT 5 was, were you comparing CAT 5e to CAT 5, etc... Network cable in general is built to a much lower quality than even a cheap video cable (DVI or VGA). It's a few twisted pairs of copper with some (thin) plastic over it. The connectors are cheap plastic and in even the most expensive ones I've seen (15+ years in IT, 5 of those at an ISP) you can pull the connector off with only a minor exertion of force. This is an apples to oranges comparison. Oh, and most network people I've meet would never take a pre-built cable over something they crimped themselves.

As long as your DVI cable meets a certain min quality level (decent insulation layer, and a ferrite core (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrite_bead) on each end) and you keep the length to within 1/2 the rated spec (15' for DVI, so stick to the 6' cable you got from Samsung) you will not see any difference with a more expensive cable. If you plan on having a 10' or 15' cable, then yes there are some brands which are better than others, but this rarely has anything to do with cost, just picking someone who makes a quality product.

What ever you do NEVER by a cable at a retail store. You can get that $80 retail cable at most e-tailers for $10. Mark up on cables in just insane.

As to the output quality looking bad on any screen, yes if your source output is bad then it will look bad period. Not sure of any issues specific to playstations, but I don't have a PS2/PS3 (PS1 doesn't have the output options for this to be an issue).

I think I was comparing a Sandberg Cat6 to some other cheaper cable. Off course I'm staying out of retail stores :)
