What I am wondering is this still worth anything or useful for anything, I have one and am not sure what to do with it

Price checks are only allowed in General Mayhem. As for what you could do with that system:

Lol, I just dug up one of my old posts to copy into another post. And then I see this one while it was still on the clipboard. So here it is again.

this is not an old computer tho its a server, it just seems to use so much power for the amount of processing power that it has

Hi, just a side-note,

1. For generic home/apartment, I think DL580-G2 noise is perhaps too loud.
2. For processor performance, I think 4 x 3.0GHz Xeon takes a lot of power for its performance in home use environment.

3. What it is good for
3a. Proliant DL580-G2 is designed for actual redundancy and protection. Meaning there is an easy and systematic supported way of doing the HP-SmartStart/Management/Protection/Recovery setup, especially if you are running Windows.
3b. If you have an environment for such need, DL580-G2 is actually not bad. SME will find it useful if they can get it at very decent price.
3c. The problem with this scenario is that SCSI disks are no longer the trend, thus buying new hot-plug SCSI disks could be a problem due to multiple considerations and cost. Unless you can find used HP hot-plug SCSI drives many units low-cost from ebay or other suppliers.
3d. So one SME scenario is to combine with NAS.
3e. Another SME scenario is to buy 2 or more eSATA add-on cards and plug them into the server, then bind them to multiple 4-slots externals enclosure with eSATA port. PCI or PCI-X. No PCI-Express. If you can find cheap 6 or more slots external eSATA enclosures, even better.

You can find that the effort is relatively a lot such that it is only worthwhile where somebody value the the original design function of DL580, the mid-to-high-end running critical business services and assurance of Proliant hardware/software quality.

Now back to your question, for home use, really need to research your use case.
