Let me outline the problem leading up to my question. User was experiencing random black screens here and there. Monitor is HP w1907, PC is Pavilion a6512p. Isolated the problem to be the VGA port of the monitor going wacky.
- Used another monitor with VGA connection and didn't have this problem
- Currently using HP w1907 monitor via DVI connection and haven't had the black screen problem yet (been about 15 minutes, it was practically instant on VGA)
So, option 1 is to just buy a new monitor anyways (a6512p only has VGA out!) for around $100.
Second option is to buy a low end video card that has a DVI-out (probably cost around $50, right?) and continue using this monitor. Issue is the a6512p only has a 250W PSU.
Can anyone confirm that I should be able to stick a PCIe low end video card in there without any problems? Or no matter what I do, will I need to upgrade the PSU? Should I just advise to buy a new monitor completely?
Thank you all for your help.
