First of all the pictures will be taken with a Potato. A Samsung Note 3 Potato to be exact so sorry about that. I needed a new Lan Box after I gave my last one to my wife. I have a lot of the parts for this thing already though I did get some new things. So pictures.
I did not really think to get a before but imagine it looking like the rest of the face. Beige, small and awesome.

So I took it apart and to my surprise it had a removable motherboard tray, so that was darn cool.

Moving on I knew that I did not need room for drives and such so I removed the cage and the support for the power supply.

Then I spent some more quality time in my garage getting the standard size power supply from one of my folding machines to fit. I got to use the dremel and cut some and I think it turned out just fine.

Lastly is an okay picture of the stuff I am going to put into it. Nothing too crazy and high end but it will play Mechwarrior just fine. Some things are not pictured.

That pretty much ends day one. I am training for a Marathon so updates will probably be slow but they will get here.

I did a little test fitting of everything together last night. I have decided against using the water cooler right now and I will just use the stock one. I was worried it would not all fit but it made it.

I need to decide if I like the way things are set up and then start cutting up the case some more to get some air in it.

Wow that case brings back some nightmares lol. Funny to see that one is still around after all these years. Looks like plenty of room to spare as well. Are you going to paint it or leave it as is, sticker and all? I'm sure you would get a few strange looks.

what did they say about windows millennium edition? best OS ever? wait no, thats not it....

I have had this case for a long time about 14 years. I had given thought to painting it but it is just so darn cool. The stickers will stay for sure,it is like history. I do have another similar HP case that was my first computer but it is a larger size and I like how small this one is.

Last night I got out to the Garage to work a little more on the case. I had to cut a hole for the power supply to get some air. In retrospect I probably should have done things a little different but eh. First time I cut into the side of a case, it looks a little wonky and a little too big. I have got some of the rubber stuff used for screens in my garage. I cut a chunk and it looks like it will do well around the edges of the cut. Hide a little bit of my mistakes.

I have not gotten much further. I put some of the edging stuff around the cut I made in the side of the case and I brought it to work to change the plugs for the power switch and leds. So I am just letting it install windows right now. I am going to have to take it all back apart later so that I can work on getting some front usb and audio plugs. So here is a picture of is sitting on the floor at my desk looking pretty.

I just wanted to post a small update. It seems that my ssd is just not working anymore. Which is fine I still have my other drive and I will just rock one. Makes it a little easier for me to find places to mount these things. I spent a good portion of this afternoon and evening working on it in the garage. I built the mount for the hard drive and a nice lexan piece to hold the front usb and the audio. I even decided to throw a little temperature display in there since it has been sitting around my stuff for a while. I cut up one of the expansion slot exhaust fans so that it will work for me since the air flow is going to be an issue in this small of a case. Fits perfectly now. I did a little test fitting and I have to trim a few things but nothing to major to fix. So tomorrow I will try and get some pictures up of tonight's outing for you all to view.

These are the pictures from last night and this morning. Not much to add, just that there is very little room and I need to figure out a little more airflow. But I imagine this will continue. I am still waiting on a sewing machine for the next part. My sister has it buried in her basement so it might take a while.

So I played with the machine for a while and it was getting a little too toasty for my tastes. I decided I would cut a vent in the top of the case to try and get some hot air out. I still need to get myself some mesh in there to keep things from falling in and little hands from trying to touch things. I am not really sure what the temperature display is doing. It has been very odd the entire time but whatever. Maybe I will replace that some day too.

I am still waiting on that sewing machine so I might end up necro bumping my own thread when my sister can find it for me.

Just a small update. Still waiting on the sewing machine, I have some black fabric here for the Lan strap. It is like an imitation alcantara suede my brother bought for his car but never used. I am going to pick out a nice purple thread for it so it will kinda match the purple ish face plate. After a few weeks of searching I was able to find the exact HP keyboard that I had back in the day. It should be here next Friday though.

Awesome work, man. I love these kind of "hidden" PC mods.

Not going to lie, the hp case burns my eyes its so ugly. Getting flashbacks to many years ago.

Thanks, I like them too.

It is definitely not the best looking case in the world but it has memories for me and it was just taking up space in my garage. So it gets used, I don't think it was the ugliest thing HP ever built though.
