How's the Logitech G9?

Well, I have decided to replace my logitech G7 with the G9, I have heard some good reviews around lately and I am a big Logitech fan so logitech is the first choice for me. The only question I have is that how long is the cord? I need to route the cord quite a bit to reach where I want to place the mouse and I want to know how long the cord is before I get one.

Thanks to all who are even taking the time to answer my question.

The cord is plenty long unless your computer is freakishly far away from your box.

Look at some reviews, there will be some info there.

Btw, you are making a good decision. I went from G7 to G9 and I'm glad I did.

My question is how do you go from wireless to corded :p

Seriously, after using the G7 which acts liked a corded mouse (ZERO lag) but is wireless so no worrying about the cord...I dont think I could switch back to corded.

and yes I have experienced plenty of mouse lag...the G7 is one of the only wireless mice I can stand to use on my main rig...cause it acts like its wired!

The tards at Logitech love these braided, rope cords that are as stiff as 12 gauge wire too. I don't mind the wires on conventional mouse, specifically the thin, unobtrusive and simple wires that Razer uses. These Logitech wires bother the hell out of me and take forever to get positioned properly so that they don't interfere with my mouse movement.

So far the G9 has been my favorite Logitech mouse so far. I've been using Logitech mice exclusively since the MX500 came out and I have had most of the MX series and G series mice.

I am not quite sure but I am going to. I think after this long of using the mouse I wanted a change. There simply isnt another wireless mouse out there on par with the G7 so I turned to a corded mouse.

I have a pair of G7 mice I still use on my test bench and on various systems. Despite the cord I prefer my G9 to all my other mice.

I actually like the cord..

I do too but I'd prefer a wireless version of this mouse. At least so long as the batteries are better than the ones in the G7 mice. Those don't live too long and the black version has no sleep function. It seems ever time I turn around the bastard has a dead battery.

I just received the g9 for Christmas. I absolutely love it. First off It handles great right out of the box, unlike the g5. I might be the only one who might have thought this but, Did anyone notice how the g5 works much more jittery than the mx518.

I loved my 518, it was uber accurate and placed my shots in bf2 where i wanted, not to forget the TWO buttons that were missing from the g5 in the first place(not the refresh of course). The g9 brings back those two buttons which is a plus but now i am trying to get used to having two buttons again since i used the g5 for so long already.

G9 does give you some of the same aspects of the g5 however such as, weight distribution management, laser tracking instead of optical, and on the fly dpi. However the grips included are a plus on the g9, the weights are a bit different, the cord is still the sleeved cord for those who like to run over your cords etc.

The mouse wheel can be changed from "clicky" to not "clicky"(i prefer clicky) since it really lets you know when you changed your gun in bf2(yes i am still stuck on bf2). There is a ton more management options and macros you could do in the set point included with the g9 you can even change the color of the led's for resolution etc. It is a bit smaller so those with big hands might find it weird, i have large hands but found it to be perfect.

Overall the mouse is incredible as far as accuracy goes, my misses in tv missles have become fewer and far between. What can i say i love the mouse and it compliments the g15 quite well.

Yeah the G15 and G9 combination is what I'm using right now. It's pretty good but I miss the old school keyboards. As far as mice go the G9 is one of the best.

I got my G9 about 4 months ago, and I've really liked it so far. At first I was excited about the on-the-fly DPI change, having 5 different settings, but after actually using it in games I found it was better to use only 2 or 3 different ones because if not you're just basically clicking too much in between, you only need a low sensitivity for sniping and one or two high-sensitivity, usually depending on the game.

I've really enjoyed the mouse, it feels great, the weights are nice, the different grips are a big plus although I just have stuck with the grippy one for about 3 months now. The only thing I haven't fully gotten used to is the left side buttons, maybe I'm just not positioning my hand exactly correct, but I set knife to the big side button in CoD4 and it seems when I'm trying to use it a lot I have to bend my hand a bit and for some reason I keep on hitting the DPI-down button and then I turn really slow  But I think that's something I have to get used to, I think i'm getting better with it anyways.

I doubt you'll be disappointed, it's a fine mouse.

I'd say I should theoretically be Very well qualified to answer your question: I JUST switched from a G7 to a G9 (which was a free replacement from logitech because the G7 had some issues, but thats another story) this last week:

I had my reservations at first, because I loved the wireless. However, I decided that I needed to give the moderately goofy looking G9 a test run. I feel in love with it instantly. The wheel is 10x better than the G7s. I loved my G7, but the wheel always pissed me off, it was way too clicky, even at upped speeds.

The biggest thing that I can say about it is its just smooth, I don't even know how else to describe it. Moving the mouse around just feels so incredibly smooth and more importantly precise. I had my dpi for my G7 at 1500 I believe, and my normal for my G9 is 1800. Even with the increase, I feel at least as much, if not more precise than with my G7.

Otherwise... as far as the cord, its only annoyed me slightly. I found I sometimes pick up the mouse, and when I do that it can get in the way a little, because i cannot reposition it the same. Not a big issue though, I figure I'll adjust out of that soon.

Highly recommended.

I really don't get how people like this cord. It's not even a cord, it's a wire. I could cut the thing into pieces and make wire coat hangers out of it. That's how stiff the damn thing is. If you fold it, THE FOLD REMAINS IN THE WIRE PERFECTLY. It should not be like that, it should be a limp piece of thin metal that does not push or pull in any way on the mouse if the user spends 12 seconds arranging it properly on the desktop. This thing might as well be a piece of half inch diameter copper stuck out of the end.

I don't understand how people have such problems with wire. I mean, it comes from behind my desk, there's a little give, and I can reach over my whole mouse pad, and it's not a small mouse pad either. If there is ever any push from the wire it's VERY light.... unless you have frail bones I don't know why it would cause you discomfort.

The cord doesn't bother me a bit.

I have friends that tell me the same thing about the G5 and the G9, both of which I had serious cord issues with. I'm seriously considering returning my G9 and going back to my Copperhead because the cord is just that much better.

I just make sure there is nothing for the cord to snag on and I've worked it a little so it is as straight as possible and that didn't take too long. It doesn't bother me a bit. I would prefer a wireless solution of course and if they ever make a wireless version of the G9 I'll be all over it. Until then, I'm satisfied.

if they made a wireless G9 that would be so nice.. has anyone seen any grips for sale anywhere?? i had read that they were planning on releasing some different grips but other then that i haven't seen anything else.. i love the grip that makes it like a mx revolution as it sits perfectly in my hand, the other one is alright but i'd rather have the revolution style

Love it. I moved from the Microsoft Explorer (great classic mouse) to the G7 (battery life sucked, but zero lag) to the MX (office use only, loved the design) to the G9. I currently use the gaming grip (dri coating) and love the thing for FPS. Extremely accurate and responsive. Have quite a range of dpi settings and use them when switching from character to character in TF2. I would say that for gaming, this is the best mouse I have ever owned, bar none. For office use, I do not find it overly comfortable and prefer the MX. The rubber grip does help on the comfort factor, but I play FPS with my finger tips and can't be bothered changing the grips everytime I want to do some work.

Bottom line, if you can find it for a decent price (i.e. $50 or less), buy it.

where can you get it that cheap?

As far as new grips, I dunno. I'd be interested in seeing some myself. You can, however, find the current grips on logitechs site for $5.

where can you get it that cheap?

You can't. I don't think it will be that low for awhile.

This thread has made my mouse purchase decision harder now.
I didn't want to start a new thread as the title of mine would be nearly the same.

I'm now also looking at the G9.
But I'm currently using he MX500, that I have had since it came out, and I wanted to get the G5 because it got much better specs but more importantly it the exact same shape that I love and am so used to.

But now all you guys are saying that the G9 is so much better than the G7.
The G5 is basicaly the same as G7 except for the cordless part and the lack of weights.

So should I skip the G5 and jump stright to G9?
What about the G9's shape compared to the excellent shape of the G5 (MX500/510/518 and MX700/G7)?

Well I always liked the shape of the MX and G-series mice, but I prefer the shape of the G9 mouse. It is more of a fingertip mouse and less of a palm mouse. If that makes sense to you it should make your decision easiere.

I always used to use MS IntelliMouse Optical/Explorer mice, but they always eventually did the same thing after a couple years... a left-click turns into a double left-click. So last time I needed to buy a new mouse, I got the MX518 Gaming Grade mouse. I love it! :) Have you considered one of those?

That was his original choice actually. I started talking about the G5 and G9 which I like better.

any of you guys upgraded from the g5 to the g9?

I know this is a silly question but..

how was the overall satisfaction over the g5? Was it worth the 74 dollars? Did the satisfaction/performance justify the cost?

I have a g5, and just bought a g9. I haven't received it yet however. I've been very happy with my g5, but tried a friends g9, and thought it tracked a little more smoothly. I'll try them back to back once it arrives.

I brought mine for $60 from mwave.com with a $20 rebate approximately 4 weeks ago. Therefore, got it for $40 all up. I am still getting used to the shape. Coming from the MX and G7 the G9 is a shorter stumpier mouse. If you play with your finger tips, this will suit. Although the tracking on the G7 was amazing for a wireless mouse, I believe that the G9 is just a bit more accurate. The batteries on the G7 pissed me off, that is why I changed. No complaints.

Here is a link to the [H]ot Deal that i used Keep checking the hot deals and i am sure it will come around again.

I've had a lot mice go through my hands..

MS 3.0, mx500, mx700, mx1000, G5, Razer Copperhead, and now the G9..

mx500/700/G5 shape was really nice.. (using my G5 currently at work)
mx1000 was fairly comfotable..
Copperhead was decent for me(i think i'm starting to get carpel tunnel) as using it for a while put a good amount of strain on my wrist..
Picked up the G9 to try it out and I love the feeling for it, with the 2 grips its great to adjust it to however you like, basically get 2 mice in 1.. It does look a little strange but once you have it in your hands it's so comfortable to use, I'm currently contemplating if I want to pick up another one to replace my G5 at work(really missing the 2 thumb buttons)

One other thing, that link to buy the grips is for US only it looks.. I can't find the option on the Canadian site.. anyone know if they sell them to Canada?

I have had the G9 since it released and I can't think of another mouse at this time that I like better, so far this is my favorite... I was previously using a Logitech MX518 and an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. I also used a G5 for a while.
I am currently in the process of modding some grips for the G9, I am buying extra grips (mostly the rough texture ones) and changing a few things. I was also thinking of making them in various different colors as well. I will try to get some pics up when I get my new camera (hopefully soon).

I have the G5 and I hate the middle mouse button. I like the way you can move it left or right, but wish that I could make use of the middle button as well. Every time I try and use it I end up clicking it either right or left, so I have given up trying to use it, and just map the left scroll and right scroll to keyboard commands in the games I play.

Is the G7 or G9 any better in regards to the middle button?

I just looked at pictures of the G9 on newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104079

That is one really ugly mouse.
But I guess how it feels is better than how it looks.
Does it come with the other "grip"?
Or is it that there are more that you can buy seperate?
I can't "test drive" the mouse as I know no one that has one and I haven't seen anyone at LANs with one.
So i think untill I test drive one I wont know 100% for sure if I would liek the G9.

Its also not a cheap mouse here in South Africa with it Retailing for R1000 to R1150.
That more than some people earn in 2 weeks.

They do in fact come with two different grips.
