How To Test Mobo?

Hi All,

Having some off and on again wonky things going on with my computer. I want to rule out any motherboard problems. I do not have a second board I can use, so I need a way to test the one that I have.

Did a bit of googleing for motherboard testing programs, but I was a little worried some were not legit.

Any programs exists? and if so which ones can I get/trust.

the only reliable way to test them is on a test bench with known good working parts.....

You'll probably get more help if you describe the problem(s) as best you can. "wonky things" is a little too general for us

Boot up any Linux Desktop CD, if the problem goes away with a different OS then the cause was software i.e. Windows. If it doesn't, your problem is hardware.

There are general troubleshooting procedures, but without knowing what you mean by "wonky" it is hard to say. There is no real software way to test your motherboard. Where I work we generally diagnose something as a bad motherboard by either replacing compionents with known good ones or by transplanting components to another, compatible and working motherboard and turning it on (this is mostly for situations where no POST occurs).

Yeah I was really just looking for a way to test it, that is why I said wonky. I have a seperate thread dealing with the odd on again and off again problems I have:

Guess I will just have to wait till I have some separate parts to test the mobo it's self. Just wanted to do it before warranty is up...
