how to take screenshots

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured screenshots are taken inside Windows, so hey, what the hell? What do all you guys use to take your screenshots? I remember reading a way to do it in Windows with Ctrl + something, I think. Can someone point me to the right program? I would really like to get some screenshots so I can show people exactly what I see instead of trying to explain everything. Thanks in advance!

top right side of the keyboard, PRINTSCREEN button.

It then sends it to the clipboard, so open up a picture editing program, like PAINT, or photoshop ect... then PASTE, the screenshot should show up, then save it how you want.

If you just want a screenshot of the program you are using and not the complete desktop then it is alt+prt scr. For games I use Fraps as it allows me to take multiple screenshots without exiting the game. It's free for the basic version.

If you want a more advanced program for doing this then buy SnagIt 8.

ALT + PRINTSCREEN captures only the currently active window, which relieves you of cropping duties.

Don't forget: now that you have learned how to make screenshots, learn which compression to use.

I use Snag It in Windows XP and Vista's built in Snag It-like capture tool.
