How to properly close console folding?

How do you properly close console folding in windows? both smp and regular? I notice sometimes when I x out and restart it just starts the WU from the beginning.
 
IIRC the SMP Windows client doesn't have checkpoints enabled yet - so whenever it is closed, it will start over anew.

As for how to close the regular console client - I go into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, services, and stop the FAH service in there. (as a faster route, you can go into Run under the Start Menu, type "services.msc" and it'll take you to the same place. This is of course assuming you are running the console client as a service...though I can't imagine why you wouldn't.
 
You can close the console properly by pressing Ctrl-C (Ctrl key and C key at the same time) when the console's window has focus. You'll see "Folding@Home shutdown.." flash at the bottom of the console window and then it will close. Fold on! *NOTE/Edit: This wont work if its running as a service.. (if its a service, you can stop/pause the service through "services.msc" in the run command like the previous poster said.)
 
If you are running it at a service and you shut down or restart the OS normally, it will end gracefully and you don't have to worry about anything.

The Windows SMP client did checkpoints just fine for me installed as a service.

 
My son noticed that on his PS3, stopping and restarting the Folding@Home program is very efficient. The program seems to restart where it left off. I wonder if the checkpoints are ongoing?
