How Stable Are You?

We all know we are [H]ard nuts, but....

I was curious as I've put a lot of work into my farm lately to get it stable is what are some of your better up times without having to reboot a single box?

I'm going on 48hrs if I get home today with no machines in the red today! I'm usually pretty damn happy when I can sleep and wake up to no issues and go to work and come back to no issues.

How long have you been stable folding and what do you run?

What do you attribute most to your stability? I think mine was getting a new router and setting up static IPs.

I think this is the longest they have gone for me. I also flirt with high OC's all boxes are at 3.2Ghz or higher with 3 of them at 3.6Ghz

I have really increased my stability since I got rid of an old Linkysys router and built a router from an old P4 box with Untangle. I used to have to reboot all of my boxen every 36 hours or my router would die on me. Now I can go weeks without a reboot!

LinuxSMP on Ubuntu 7.10 FTW. Last reboot was almost 10 days ago, thanks to a power outage, at least a month before that.

A couple flaky 2619s have been the only trouble in recent memory, but Im back to my steady diet of 2605s and loving it.

All this on the cheapest POS router on the shelf at BB.

The network adaptor loopback trick helped me to increase stability. I recently took two boxen offline for some shuffling of harddrives which threw my stats for a spin but i should have pretty decent stability in the upcoming weeks.

I use a crappy linksys WRT54GS router and as much as the wireless drops out i have few problems with it affecting my garden.

notfreds diskless systems are rock stable once you get them up. With me If I can get the system stable for 6 hours, it takes a power outage to take em down...... or me wanting to tinker.

But honestly if the boxes were 100% stable and we never touched them how fun woudl that be? I don't want to lose production, but on the same hand we have to have some fun while we fold!

More recent uptimes for a quad would be around a month but I haven't had my quads for long.

My longest is probably 8-10 months on an old Duron 1Ghz on an ECS K7S5A with WinXP. It would have been longer but it was doing triple duty as a folder, IRC bot and file server at my friend's house. It was the file server part that killed the uptime as my friend had a 100gig hard drive he wanted put in the machine because he didn't have room in his computer for it. I had to take the box down to add the drive. It stayed up for at least a couple months after that until power went out.

I can have the boxes running for weeks at a time and there is seldom any stalling. Most cases is with someone tinkering with the switch at work and power outages. At home, I have a dedicated box running Endian Firewall and it has always been robust for close to 2 years now. I'm now running the same firewall in a VM and it also work great (at first, I had to tinker with the settings so I allocate enough resources or it will stall).

The old farm had uptimes of months.
The only time it got rebooted was either from a power cut or when I finally got around to updating Windoze.

I've just spent the last two weeks testing part of the new farm.
The longest uptime so far is 24 hours and counting .........

I just started on my 83rd wu on my GPU client since the last re-start.... which is absolutely amazing given the issues I had in the past with the GPU client...

My borg has been running stable for over a month, but those are all older machines running the standard client. My diskless boexn have been remarkably stable for the last month or so, and my Ubuntu machines have been running for God only knows how long...

Not bad, my main machine gets the occasional reboot due to updates and such, but that's about it.

I should note that my diskless boxen gave me fits for quite some time, but with the disc I am currently using, no problems so far.... *crosses fingers*

Thats quite a feat from what I've heard of the GPU client. Guess the GPU-fu is with you on this one.

Cool so potentially with the Windows SMP I could see many a day with very little issues! Today was another good day all green and I'm looking at a record day for me.

uguru tells me that its been 412 hours since my last power cycle. Not sure if it counts restarts in there for vista patches or not.

I had a bad habit of playing too much on my main box and that can be costly in time.

Since Killer yelled at me I’ve pretty much quit that

So, 4 boxen and the only down time is when updates hit and every few months a defrag.

1 Box on Vista 64 the other three on XP-Pro, nothing running below 3.1 gigs, no errors no stuck units except one a few months back.

I've been doing that for a while and I don't think it's helped me much.

Short of power or hardware failure (they're getting pretty old) my linux boxen run pretty well. Can go months at a time without me even looking at them. My Windows laptop gets powered off commuting back and forth to work so I don't know how long that'll run. Then again I'm not crunching those crazy huge SMP WU's like everyone else.

My systems are all stable, except for a borged C2D that was giving me problems. After a new PSU, and still flakey in our office but stable in the repair shop, we switched the AC power cord and it's now stable!

By far the most stable of my folding machines is my PS3 - over 400 WUs and folding.

I'd probably be in much better shape if he had. I have found over the years that the less alcohol I drink, the more often I get sick. Too bad I'm flat broke, otherwise I would go buy some beer tonight. Only another 6 days until pay day.
