Clearly it has faster speeds! :D

ongoing discussion HERE

lol, exact spec comparison here.

But yeah, in fairness to Nvidia, rebaddging moves units and the G92 wa--is (alas) a good chip.

I wouldn't touch one.

Yeah, if your expecting a reasonable discussion on a gaming board you're nuts. The most serious discussion you're going to get out of these people is one in which someone decides to pit batman agains the incredibule hulk, which is too bad. They're are plenty of smart people who game; My physics prof was big into halo. But any smart person is probably smart enough to avoid bringing anything up in conversation on a gaming board. I once made a post explaining interpolation to the best of my abillity (it takes time to fire an electron across the country, time to queue, stack, pop, etc. I even linked off to an article on propagation delay), not recieved well.

Eh? I always thought that the re-use of the same design was because Nvidia has been having serious engineering problems for the last few years.

The GT200 series was very late if I recall and it couldn't be scaled down to create a lower cost/lower performance/lower power chip.

Reusing the same design wasn't really a choice.

It is shady, but I think it was more out of necessity.

It's kinda like a kid reusing an essay he already wrote on a similar topic and just changing all the names because he got sick and still had to turn the essay in on time.

I'm guilty of this

Well the GTS250 does draw less power and has a smaller pcb...so its not faster but more efficient.

Compared to what? There were three versions of the 9800GTX.

9800GTX (original)
9800GTX+ (55nm)
9800GTX+ Rev2 (shorter PCB)

The GTS250 is the exact same card as the 9800GTX+ Rev2, there is absolutely no difference.

Well, the 8800GTS 512 rebranding three times at least had some minor changes between each card... except for the GTS 250 512MB which is a rebadged 9800GTX+.

If you're looking for full rebadged cards though, that's the 8800GT->9800GT. No difference, even the initial 9800GT cards were all 65nm. Ditto with the 8800GS and the G92 9600GSO.

And DeadSkull, afaik I see more 4850 cards in forum user's sigs than G92 cards with 128 shaders.

How Nvidia makes money!
They make products people buy. That's my guess anyway.

when i bought my PNY XLR8 9800GT, i saw that there were 2 little stickers on the pcb. one was sorta falling off so i pulled it back a little a what do you know? under the "9800GT" sticker was an "8800GT" sticker. haha! and on the cooler, it just says "GT 512MB" and not 8800 or 9800.
