In the last few months Nvidia has not only been screwing ati customers, but also their own as well. Here is a list of a few negative things Nvidia has done lately.
Blocked physx from those that own ati cards even though they still own a nvidia card.
Blocked AA in the new Batman game.
Rebranded a lot of old cards.
Denied a defect on some of there mobile chips

Rumor has it that they will even be blocking Lucid Hydra 200.

If you can think of any other things feel free to contribut as it will inform us more.

For the simple fact of just a few of these things, Nvidia has lost my support completely. I have both nvidia and ati, but now it will be ati from here on out.

I could care less what they've done, if their new cards are fast and at a decent price, I am in.

Waiting for comparison with HD 5870, whenever that will be, but games out now aren't demanding anyways so my 4870 will be just fine until then :)

No they aren't ... lol

I haven't tried to, but doesn't everybody use drivercleaner or driversweeper these days??

I doubt I will go Nvidia after my GTX 275. Nice card, fast, everything I expected, but Nvidia is doing a lot of shady things... Maybe in the next few years, but my next card is gonna be a Radeon 5000-series.

wha wha. if their product performs for the price they're asking for, i'm in. hell, if ati continues to sit on its hands and allows nvidia to cripple its hardware in twimtbp games, then i'll have no other recourse than to buy nvidia cards if i want to play those games.

I voted "Maybe, it depends on nvidia's attituted." If Nvidia doesn't clean up its act and stop its consumer hostile actions, I'll stop buying Nvidia for principle reasons. If they clean up their act, I'll consider their cards with their competitor cards (ATI and soon Intel too I hope) next buy as I have always before.

Nvidia reminds me of Apple. I stopped buying Apple products because of their business practices and Nvidia is following the same playbook.

As long as its not another Geforce 5 FX series debacle, then my next upgrade would be nVidia. Only company I've stuck with that didn't belly up (3Dfx) on me and kept me 90+% happy (10% from the 5700Ultra FX).

Don't get me wrong, love AMD, but never was a fan of ATI, not that I wouldn't switch if need be.

At this point I don't care if Fermi comes out and stomps the 5000 series into the ground. Which is highly doubtful anyways but then again Hell may freeze over.

I'm skipping this generation of NV cards. I won't even consider them nor will I recommend them. I was looking at getting a 5870X2 and pairing it with a GTX260 for PhysX but now even that isn't under any consideration.

For the time being I choose to show NV my dislike of their bullshit tactics by not buying nor recommending them to any friends/family who ask. Does NV care about my money? Not at all, but if enough people thought along the same lines NV would realize they can't keep doing this.

Have you tried going to ATI from Nvidia?

Yes. See my thread bitching about it.

I've long been an nvidia fanboy but it's starting to look ugly. If the Lucid Hydra rumors are true and there's not a very good technical reason for it then I will no longer buy nvidia.

Sounds like fanboy dribble to me.

Who gives a shit! Good place for me to vent my frustration with them, thanks OP.

Voted: No. Because of this stuff nvidia has done, I will now be ati or others only.

Only if the Charlie bullshit (http://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/11/04/nvidia-crushes-msis-lucid-based-board/) about Nvidia killing the MSI fusion/Hydra board is true, and from all indications, plus the shitty feeling I have, I think it just might be.

Nvidia can kiss my ass.

But... if it isn't, by some miraculous move, Nvida supports Hydra, then they have my sincerest apology. :D

I have 3 monitors now in Eyefinity. So for me to go back to nVidia they will need to support my 5760x1200res setup

I can say that removing drivers under Vista presents no issues for the many times I've tried it, so not sure what your doing that could be wrong.

and yes I will coninue to purchase Nvidia and ATI cards in the future, others can keep their special fanboy quest, I'll let logic drive my purchasing.

A number of the things NVIDIA's done so far have only negatively impacted ATi owners, so buying an ATi exclusively only to be negatively impacted by what NVIDIA's doing doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me.

To each his own, however.

But just think of people that own ati or both in my case. If nvidia does it to ati owner's, do you think those people will like nvidia and switch, or do you think they will bitch and complain about nvidia and stay with ati?

Couple of things you seemed to have overlooked:
- AMD has never licensed PhysX...infact they have gone from Havok (with nothing to show) to Bullet...and still nothing to show.
- NVIDIA wrote the AA for "Batman - AA"...AMD did nothing....even when offered to do the same
- AMD has renamed chips too:
Radeon 8500 LE -> Radeon 9100
Radeon X300 -> Radeon X550
Radeon X1300 Pro -> Radeon X1550
(logic to as why here: -> linky
..and lets not get into the quack thingy.

Neiter comapny is your best friend, bay after your needs...anything else is stupid.

1) amd nor nvidia should have to license something that should be open standard. With nvidia controling physx, they can change a lot of things and cause a lot of problems if they see fit.
2) nvidia gave basically an open standard form of AA with a slight change to call there own, when again, it should have been open standard AA from the start.
3) since Amd had bought ATI, when has rebranding happened?

aside from the spelling errors....
I really wanna know the single issue with this whole fanboi whine and cry about rebranding, ATi has done the same thing for the same amount of time (if not longer), and that whole can of worms aside(as I've said repeatedly) it isn't like nVidia is jacking the price up as they rebrand, they're lowering SRP and increasing performance while refining an existing product that more than suits the needs of today (where is the ethical issue there? seriously tell me the ethical issue in changing/modifying a product and calling it something else? by that logic its evil for anyone to have product lines at all because its "rebranding" (a 5850 is the same chip as 5870, oh no, ATi is unethical and evil and must be burned at the stake now!))

the whole batman thing, I could care less, because its one game, and I'll probably never have an interest in playing it, if it affects you/others, it sucks that developer drama ruined it for you (but sadly, this has happened before, and will very likely happen again in the future)

the PhysX thing, I don't see the big gripe, its an nVidia product, and it isn't required for any games (and very few games support it), its kind of like complaining that GeForce 3D Vision won't work on Radeon cards, just because you could plug the hardware in doesn't mean you get the feature, big deal

PhysX should *not* "be an open standard" just because you think it should, its a privately developed piece of IP, based on that logic, its wrong that we have to pay for DirectX as well, because it should be "open" (do you understand the difference between "open" and "licencable" ?)

equally, AA is *not* an "open standard", the implemtation specifics can vary WILDLY between manufacturers and even hardware generations, its up to the drivers to provide abstraction in that regard

as far as "AMD is the white knight", seriously get off it kid, its not like nVidia is some big bully down the block with a magnifying glass burning ants and blowing up his toys with M80's, and AMD is the shy kid who wants to be your friend, both are big business, and both want your money, period

really, quit with this everyman "everyone KNOWS" reasoning, and quit with this "nVidia is the devil and evil and wants to kill a puppy and kicks dogs and burns peoples houses down and is unethical and evil and the devil and AMD is so nice and caring and loves us and hugs us and listens to us and goes on dates with us and will be our BFF4L" fanboi stuff

I will repeat this again, I am now on Eyefinity setup with 3 monitors, my next upgrade may possibly be the 5870 6DP card that will allow a 5x1 Portrait setup

nVidia will need to be able to support that somehow in the future with an Eyefinity of their own, or something very similar for me to change now. I love the multiple display setup and will never go back to a single screen now

Glad to see that the overwhelming majority have chosen "Maybe, depends on performance" instead of being whiny fanboys.

If nvidia does it to ati owner's, do you think those people will like nvidia and switch, or do you think they will bitch and complain about nvidia and stay with ati?
They'll likely bitch, complain, and sit on their hands and not do much of anything, as it's not about whether they "like" NVIDIA or not. If NVIDIA cards do the things they want, they'll switch. If they're happy with AMD and on missing out of the things NVIDIA's trying to shut them AMD out of, they'll stick.

I could care less what they've done, if their new cards are fast and at a decent price, I am in.

exactly what I was going to say :) If not, then ATi all the way (I might even just go ati anyway instead of waiting... but not because of batman or physx)

Not buying from a particular company because you disagree with their unscrupulous business practices can hardly be considered acting like a fanboy.

If Nvidia cleans up their act I'll consider buying their cards. That is, of course, if they are still around in a few years, which depends on whether or not GPGPU catches on quickly enough and if they can fix their engineering problems.

The game is changing. Low-end graphics are moving onto the CPU and even though they suck right now, in a few years it'll be very different. Not to mention that already even sub $100 cards can drive even the newest games at max settings at resolutions that the vast majority of users actually use and the margins are much slimmer on those cards.

Nvidia needs to change its design to be more profitable both for its own self and its partners or it's going to go through its cash reserves like wildfire.

I just bought 2 GTX 285's in April. I love them, and deffinatly will want to upgrade about the same time next year.

I prefer to buy nvidia because I like their driver layout a whole lot more than ATi's. But it comes down to performance. (Not to be confused with cost/performance)

I want 1 card that will replace both of my GTX 285's.... But still going to get 2 of them <3

- NVIDIA wrote the AA for "Batman - AA"...AMD did nothing....even when offered to do the same

Not true. AMD has been in contact with Eidos both pre and post release regarding batman and AA.

Nvidia did strike a deal with Eidos to make AA in directx for batman, provided that they could screw Eidos customers at the same time that didn't have Nvidia cards with vendor-id blocks. Despicable consumer hostile actions which hurts gamers. Eidos should have refused such offers from Nvidia, instead of taking a morally dive as they did.

Neiter comapny is your best friend, bay after your needs...anything else is stupid.

There we agree. Companies are there for the money. But, we should react when they try to screw us to get them.

They tried to keep it in the dark, but got busted and the backroom deal shit is in the open. Lets hope the bad publicity make them think twice about it in the future.

lol bravo (no pun intended)

it doesnt seem nvidia has an answer for the new 5000 series ati cards. at least not anytime soon. yeah they could be super secret but i would think there would something more solid then the current info released. i didnt make a choice on the poll none of them seemed to apply.

This is not a fanboi rant. This is more about nvidia hurting themselves with potential customers. I know both companies have done some stupid shit way back in the past, but what is relevant is how they have behaved lately. I whole heartedly believe that physics and AA should be an open standard or at least licensed by an independent third party as it will be a must in gaming in the future. In my opinion, patenting physics is like patenting a box, you might be the first with it, but everyone will end up using it anyway out of necessity. I know usually a thread like this screams fanboy, but I am not. This is more of a thread pointing out how nvidia is shooting themselves in the foot and how they are potentially losing sales. Right now I will not buy nvidia with the attitude that they have now. It's like buying a toy for a kid that was made by a known pedophile.

Meh, I don't really like NVidia anymore...

I have gotten 4 defective video chips (6150 LE integrated graphics) on my Slimline, all requiring me to send the computer to HP for motherboard replacement. I also had a hard time installing drivers for my 8500 GT, which I swapped out for an ATI card later on. No problems whatsoever.

I really would like to be able to use their 3D glasses and PhysX, but I just don't know...
