2560x1440 I want to max out my AA and still push 60 fps.

I know I need two cards, I need to know if I can get away with 1.5 GB 580s, 1.25 GB 570s or if I need to splurge on 3GB 580s.

Ideas?

AMD is outta the question.

Good luck with that. HardOCPs comparison between SLI and crossfire 2560x1600 shows AMD cards winning in performance and value.

edit: I doubt many games require more than 1gb ram for "just" 2560x1600. You could check out the 6950 1gb reviews comparing it to the 2gb version, to get some perspective on which games would require more ram.

if AMD is out of the question... good luck, you need 2gb to do that.

Hope you live in Europe then because that seems to be where the only known model is available.

Or the US where I can buy them now?

Theyre not out yet. Why the animosity against AMD? It amazes me to see the fanboy hate from one side to another.

Buy what you feel is the best deal out at the time and you'll never be disappointed!

Its not fan boy hate, I have owned ati and nvidia cards. Right now ATI isnt doing it for me.

AMD doesn't support 120hz across 3 screens either. That said I was totally pleased with my XFX 5870 and X800XL.

Wait, you only have 1 screen right? If that's the case dual GTX 570s will definitely work.

If you have 3x monitors then you want the 3gb 580s.

Yeah Im only running one screen, did a bunch of reading last night and I think Im going with 570s. If I ever get into surround I'll probably be buying a new gen of cards anyway.

2560x1440 With Maxed out AA with 1.25Gb of VRAM is cutting it fine dude.
I can touch on 1Gb with Black Ops @ 1980x1200 with 8x AA... and that's only CoD:Black Ops. The GTX 580 1.5Gb would be a better solution in my opinion.

well, if you want to max out AA, you can get 2 6950s for less then 1 3GB GTX 580, hell you could get 3 for less then the cost of 2 3GB GTX580s, I'm not sure what about AMDs cards is not cutting it for you, the 6970s match the GTX580 when in sli vs crossfire, seems like a logical choice to me, but if you're stuck on seeing green, then it's going to cost you about..... $450 more for 2 3GB GTX 580s, 370*2 = 740, 599*2 = 1200, or 3 6950s is ... $800 :p

is trifire possible yet with 69xx?

As for how much VRAM you need, it depends on what you play, a modded elder scrolls oblivion can easily go over 1.25 or even 1.5G @ that resolution.

its your money so I would suggest the 2.5gb 570GTX if they are reasonable. the current price premium on the 580GTX is simply stupid. but really you do understand that the "memory limitation" you would is likely to be the difference between 4xAA and 8xAA? if you plain to go surround visions then the memory would matter more, at 4mp your spending a lot of money for very little. like I said its your money but I wanted to make the point just to be clear.

and I would remind you that you can get 3 6950 for less then 2 580GTX. at the least I would go with the 570GTX

(reading the above seemed like sounded bad, not how that is meant, I just didn't want you pissing money for what to me seeming a fractional increment. )

There is no such thing as a 2.5Gb GTX 570 :/ Only 1.25Gb, in SLi you still only have 1.25Gb.
Agree with the 6950 though, they are cheaper. If OP is looking for nVidia then nVidia it is.

I think its coming shortly, isn't plailt doing double ram cards now? they already have the 3gb 580GTX

I am not confusing framebuffer for physical ram if that is what your thinking

I very much doubt Palit/Gainward would do the 2.5Gb card. If they did then it would kill their GTX 580 sales. The GTX 570 is a bastard card as well, just there to fill slight glitch in the market of the cards, I can't see them bothering.
There is no news on it that i can see either, just talk because of the 2Gb GTX 560Ti and 3Gb GTX 580.
They also already released 1.25Gb Phantom GTX 570 as well.

Who know's, i could be wrong :)

Edit: Also realised we're calling it 1.25Gb not 1.28Gb... lol so 2.56Gb

Did you see the [H] review on 570/580/6950/6970 SLI/Crossfire review? 570 = PATHETIC. I don't know what you have against AMD, but feel free to spend more way more money for far less performance.

But if you have the money to spend, that Palit 3GB 580 linked above really does look like the ultimate dream card... just one would probably be fine for what you need and then you wouldn't have to worry about sli/crossfire issues.

I certainly don't know, but on the other hand the 580GTX is way overpriced and the AMD cards walk over 570 in that category. to me it seems like it would be worth it for the market share but its not like I am running a large tech company either. but I am pretty sure that outside of a few die hard Nvidia people they are not going to be selling a lot of these 600 dollar cards, not when you can get two 6950 for 80 bucks less that would walk all over it. and the extra memory is largely wasted on a single screen so your going to need two cards, 1200 dollars. that buys you 3 6970 and damn near water cool them. I guess my case for the 570GTX 2.6gb is that it would offer a more competitive solution. Then again no one is paying for my opinions :D
