How Much Space Do you have?

Media Server has
6* Samsung HD501 500GB (Highpoint 2240 Controller)
Waiting for Supermicro Black CSE-M35T1to be released in UK, can expand to 16 then. Bloody dvd's :(

Gaming Box
2* Maxtor 160GB
1*150GB Raptor (RIP, RMA on way)
Another 150GB Raptor on order.

So just over 3TB of useable space.

3 x Seagate 320GB drives
1 x IBM Deathstar 75GB
2 x External Maxtor 120GB
2 x 73GB SCSI main drives
1 x 80GB Backup drive
4 x 200GB Media Center film drive
1 x 160GB 'Other stuff' drive
1 x 18GB SCSI Drive 15k

so around 2.8TB raw

Haven't lived with my parents for over 10 years.
What does that have to do with it? Money? Remember most the people here are older with decent --> excellent jobs.

I have a 1tb system, and yes I do live my parents, but I also give them say my 160gb's that I just replaced with 2x250gbs. The 160s were IDE and I now use all SATAII.

2223.09 gigs usable

Spread out over, 19 drives. (7 systems)

< Lives at home

Primary has...
Western Digital 320GB SATA + Seagate 160GB PATA ...480GB

Secondary has...
Hitachi 80GB PATA ... 80GB

External = 160GB PATA ... 160GB

iPod = 20GB ... 20GB

for a grand total of:

740GB.

82.3gb Hitachi SATA1.5Gbps drive (8mb cache) OS/Software/Games/Downloads/Music

and eh ... that's all
nu.gif

6x 250 seagate ES drive in various level of RAID.

1.5 Terabyte unformated

I've forgotten how its laid out, I'm at home for christmas so I can't check, but from memory:

Size (total)
128 MB - RAID 1 - boot parition - 50 MB/sec
60ish GB - RAID 0 - swap, /tmp, /var/tmp partition - 450 MB/sec (bloody fast)
100ish GB - RAID 6 - critical stuff such as /home, etc - 136 MB/sec
60ish GB - RAID 10 - system files, root, etc... - 200 MB/sec
460ish GB - RAID 10 - more data and junk - 200 MB/sec

Now there probably is quite a few errors in this but that's what I remember at the moment and i'm not going to break out the bloody calculator

See sig
8x 320gb WD RE on the Areca raid6 (~1.8tb)
8x 320 Seagate 7200.10 Software raid5 (~2.1tb)

Total: Just under 4tb usable space.

One system is a workstation, the other is a HA fileserver test system and iscsi/aoe testbed. Eventually I'll probably export iscsi to a Solaris system for ZFS and use that as my backup system taking advantage of the filesystem snapsotting. I can push about 3.5gbit/s between the two test systems using iperf, so I've got a ways to go before I hit the network speed cap.

My workstation is using about ~60% of the space currently, nearly all of which is media. About 70gb mp3s, 100gb probably of music videos, like 180gb of tv shows, and a ton of movies. I've got a ton of backlog to encode as well, which was partially my reason for expanding. Once I catch up on that I'll probably finish my other test server and match it with another 8x 320gb, and if I have to ever go beyond that I'll probably just build some monster 48 disk array and throw whatever I can afford in it. I'm not counting all the other operating system drives and other things, otherwise I'd probably be a bit closer to 5tb in total.

2x36gb raptors
2x320gb maxtor
4x300gb maxtor
2x250gb wd
1x160gb maxtor

Total = 2572 GB

rofl thats about what mine breaks down into :p i have more anime and less movies though.

I call shens!

You can fit about 20,000 pics in 8GB of space, so you should have closer to 455,000 files in that folder...

I just had the 150GB in my box until I got Cox 15mbps cable, then I needed more power! er, storage.

haha amen.
a 120gb drive stayed empty for 2 years, then I got cable had to buy 4 more drives.

It must be fate to come across this thread just now (and before it has 317 pages). Just 2 days ago I was looking to see if I should buy some more hard drives. Then I thought I should probably take an inventory of my working drives first to see what I had and if I really needed any more. Was a bit surprised at the results myself I must say:

498635711_6ec8efaa38_o.gif

I also broke down where they were and what used for, but I'll just summarize that bit:
Installed: 47
Bare, but contains data: 6
Just bare: 4
Bare, unknown origin, unknown data: 3
Standy-by: 3
Contain temp OS builds: 3
Awaiting Known Use: 2
Missing: 1

So really I only have 4 drives available at the moment, and they are 40gb, 40gb, 100gb, and 120gb so I probably could use some more larger ones, sad as that is ...

Edit: looks like I'm bringing thread back from the dead too, heh.

WDC WD800BB 80GB Main OS
MAXTOR 6E040L0 40GB Games
WDC WD2500KS 250GB Personal Data

Has venturi posted his 10x1TB drives yet? I haven't heard of more space in one workstation than that.

Fileserver:
4 500gb SATA Seagates
8 250gb SATA Seagates
6 250gb IDE Seagates (To be replaced with 1tb seagates when they become "cheap")
2 120gb deathstars (yeah, I need to replace those, I know!)

Lian Li PC-201 with expanders in 5.25" bays = 20 disks <3

Random assortment of other disks in other computers

So around 5.5tb, probably closer to 6tb.

1x250GB Vista/Games
2x320GB Movies/Roms/ISO/etc
1x500GB TV Shows

1390GB which is not enough.

These days getting a lot of space is cheap...

You can buy 4x500gb drives for $400 = 2TB

9 Internal 500GB Seagates
12 External 500GB Seagates
4 External 750GB Seagates
17 External 250GB Seagates

17,750TB so far

file server 5.5tb
8x segate 500gb raid 5
8x wd 320gb raid5
mostly movies, tv shows, music and porn

gaming box 800gb
hitachi 500gb os + apps
4x wd 160gb raid 10

linux
hitachi 320gb

so total of 6.5tb

I have a couple drive lying around unused, but I have 910 gigs in use.
1 x 160 gig WD
1 x 500 gig Sea
1 x 250 gig Max (external USB)
