I don't buy any of this crap--stuff doesn't go up 10x overnight. I think it's the same game being pulled in other industries--"jack it up as high as we can, profit and exit". From isps to grocery store chains, I see it everywhere, and I believe the CNBC analysis of 'consumers are complaining but they're still buying' hence this isn't stopping. The local AI, Copilot, indicated that Hynix, Samsung and Micron are converting the higher capacity module lines, a.k.a 64gb ones into HBM lines making them become scarcer. The overall iimpact is virtually any electrical device using Dram will have a significant price increase. One would think Intel and Global Foundary would shift, convert some of their older process nodes to DRam chip making and SSD's.
Smart business move for sure! It's like when Southwest bought fuel futures for their planes and weren't affected by fuel price increases for a few years.Bought it for my repair shop before the prices went crazy. Had a lot more.
There's a market for those too, but the demand is less even if the prices are nearly the same per GB as DDR5. Still will help keep a lot of systems alive though! (Including a lot of mine.I've got boxes of pieces but they're SIMMS, SDRAM, RDRAM, some DDR and DDR2. Converting those to DDR5 is basically alchemy changing lead into gold at this point!![]()
I've got 32GB in my 5070 Ti based laptop. I have 48GB in my desktop with a 5090. I have two older machines, I believe those have 16GB. One's got a 3090, the other has a 2080 Super. One of those is a 3950X and the other is a 3900X.Just bought 128 of DDR5 for my 9950x3d build....... ouch.
