How much production should I expect?

I've got a Q6600 and an E6700 just sitting around, not doing anything. I'm thinking about buying a pair of DFI P35 Infinity boards for them and a couple cheap video cards. To save on cash, I'll just use the stock coolers that came with them.

I think I can get an easy 3GHz out of the Q6600 (it's a G0), but the E6700 is a hot one and I think I'll leave it stock. So, if I'm running the Linux SMP clients on these chips, how much production do you think I'll be able to pull out of them? I don't know much about estimating PPD, but I do know there are a lot of you out there that do.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
 
Both of them should do very well for PPD. My E6400@3.4 does 2150-2200PPD on the 1760 point WUs with the Linux SMP client. At 3Ghz I would expect the quad to do at least 3000PPD. The SMP client isn't nearly as efficient with 4 processors as it is with 2 so you won't get anywhere near 100% scaling.

As for the E6700, I'm not sure. At stock speeds you could probably get 1500PPD or somewhere around that.

I can't give you any info on the other WUs since most of them prefer the larger caches which my E6400 doesn't have. It takes a huge hit on PPD running anything other than the 1760 point WUs. I'm running a 1523 point WU (2609) right now and I'm only getting a little under 1300PPD. From what I heard, I would be getting much better PPD out of it if I had the extra cache.

 
If you take the Quad and load VMware server with Linux inside of it (search this forum for instructions. its not hard and you get 100% scaling) run 1 instance of SMP in linux and one in windows that will net you upwards of 3500PPD+ for the Q6600. Combined you will net 5500PPD+
 
I'll probably run two clients on the quad for increased production, I've heard that helps quite a bit.
 
It does.

My latest small ramp is just from swopping my 3 quads from single windoze SMP to dual VM Linux SMP.
Gained a good couple of thousand PpD.

I'll probably do a little bit better considering I'll not have the overhead of VMWare, however small. I'm just going to run straight Xubuntu with twin SMP clients.
