How much power do I really need?

I know there are several threads like this, but I'm not really sure how much power I really need for my system. Right now I'm running a Rosewill 950W, and while it's been a good, stable PSU for me, I would really like to go modular. However, I don't want to spend a ton of money (Probably around $120 max), and I'm wondering if something like a 750W or 850W would be enough, or even lower? My rig is in my signature, and in addition I am also running 5 SATA II hard drives. I will probably not be using SLI, but the option may be nice to have in the future. Any advice? I've been looking at brands like Silverstone (I really like that they're *fully* modular) and Corsair.

The only quality modular PSU I know in that $120 price range is this:
$125 - Silverstone ST70F 700W Modular PSU

It has 50A on the +12V rail which should be enough for that system. However GTX 280 SLI is not an option with the above PSU.

CPU: Core i7 920 @ 3.8 GHz, 1.35 VCore
HSF: Vigor Monsoon III LT
Mobo: Asus P6T Deluxe
RAM: 6 GB OCZ Gold PC12800 DDR3
Video: EVGA GTX 280 SC
Sound: X-Fi XtremeGamer Pro Fatal1ty
Monitor: LG W2052TQ 20" LCD
This plus 5X HDD's & a future 280SLI option with a "known good" modular PSU for $120 is not going to happen.

The Corsair TX850W is by far your best option & is available for around $100 shipped, but it is not modular. To go modular in this power class we are looking at about $200.

The Corsair HX1000 is modular & $200 shipped, it would be an excellent choice & provide all the overhead desired for 280SLI.

Best Wishes,
Dave:)

Yeah, I was looking at those. There's a 750W of the same type for $125 after MIR. I guess I should up my budget a bit, maybe more around $150. I just don't want to pay $200 for a PSU if I don't even need 900W+.

Yeah, that is kind of what I was thinking. What if I wasn't going to do SLI? I really have never done it in the past, so it's actually pretty unlikely.

Thanks for the info. :D

Same type of what? What 750W PSU are you talking about?

It just hit me now that the Antec TP-750 is a modular PSU and can be had for $120:
$120 - Antec Truepower New TP750 750W PSU

GTX280 SLI might be possible with the above PSU but it be far too close IMO. Though for non GTX-280 SLI, the above PSU is more than enough. Review of the PSU:

Sorry, I should have quoted for clarity. I was referring to the Silverstone PSU.

And yeah, thanks, I will look into that Antec one.
