Did not vote because I don't use my PCs for a set arbitrary amount of years before I store, throw them away, or donate them. I just use the PC until it stops meeting my needs with it in either a primary or secondary function. I.e repurposed as a HTPC, server, etc.
 
It ends up that, yeah, when I think about it, I generally keep whatever my main rig is for about 3 - 4 years, depending on my needs, before I replace and repurpose, gift it, etc.
 
7 to 8, if only because after 5 years I can turn it into a server. Sure the old PC is a Celeron D, but it's 5.5TB RAID 5 partition stores all my movies, music and video while I conserve space on the 1TB drive on my main PC.
 
depends...case I have for 2years..and not thinking of changing it..
internals change whenever I find a good deal(free upgrades..sell price covers new upgrade price)

I'm running a Pentium D 3.4ghz. Which was an upgrade from my Pentium 4C 2.4@3.4.
 
I'm constantly upgrading so I can't say. Since 2008, I've had 5 CPU's, 4 GPU's, 2 cases, 2 motherboards and so on. The oldest thing in my rig is my WD 320GB drive which I bought in 2009. The most recent part is my 8150 that I bought like 6 months ago. Next part will be a higher end cooler, then a GPU and I need to get a new HDD or two for backup and I've got my eye on those lower powered Corsair AX PSU's when they come out.
 
I worked it out and, over the past 7 years, I go through a new PC every 10 months or so. I excluded prior years since I tended to keep them longer in the past e.g., I had my Commodore 128 all the way through grade school, my 386dx through most of high school.

When I am done with it for good, I will sell it or give it away to somebody who needs one.
 
As long as its relevant and not holding back my gaming i will still use it. Just look at my signature, this machine still eats everything i toss at it. Minus needing a new video card (7970 here i come!) and used for gaming there is no program that gives my machine a hard time to run. In fact most programs cant even use this machine fully and its not the best rig here at [h].

Still on a build I put together early 2007, so I guess I'm going on six years. With the quad core upgrade and 5850, runs 95% of games at max enough quality for me.

Before that, it was a build that used an Intel 1.8 ghz processor that oc'd to 3.0 ghz. I believe that was built in 2002, so five years. Before that, went through about 4 different systems in five years of college.

These days, you don't have to upgrade your system every two years to play the newest games anymore.
 
While I don't really go by a date, history has shown that I do a complete overhaul every 3 - 4 years.
 
I typically keep mine for about 2 years, but then I typically upgrade just a few components, and not the whole computer.
 
I usually go between 2-4 years between new builds. The longest a platform has ever lasted me was 4 years, 3 months - my previous LGA775 build. Here's to hoping I'll get at least another 3 years out of this one, save for a CPU and GPU swaps...
 
Voted 1-2, because historically, that's what it's been.

That being said, aside from the GPU, I can't foresee myself giving up my 2500k rig for a long time. Had it for 8 or 9 months already, and see no reason whatsoever to upgrade.
 
My oldest is just over 4yrs old, but has some upgrades along the way. Larger HDD, more memory, USB3, card reader, graphics card, new power supply and case. Should get a couple more out of it at least.
 
I am basically upgrade the same rig I originally bought in 2005. However, I put down 3 to 4 years since I updated my CPU about that amount of time each upgrade in my rig (A64 3000, Opetron 165, C2D 2160, Q9550 about every 3 years)
 
in the past, I'd usually do a new build every 1.5-2 years... however, I've been rocking my Q6600 since it released which is about 5.5 years so far. I honestly see no reason to upgrade anytime in the immediate future... it's still runs fast and does everything I need it to do.

I have made small upgrades since buying it though (GPU's mostly)

I vividly recall many people telling me not to get the chip at that point because it would be a waste of money, since not many applications and games even used 2 cores at that point. It's, hands down, the best decision I've ever made (when it comes to computer builds at least)
