How long do you keep product boxes/packaging?

I used to only keep mobo and GPU boxes, but now it seems like I'm saving everything and I'm really questioning why.

What boxes/packaging do you keep and for how long do you keep it?

Depends on the thing... If I might need to return it or ship it for warranty service, i try to keep the box. But I have a lot of space (and a lot of junk!).

Video game stuff I try to keep the boxes, cause it might be valuable when my heirs sell it, lol.

I still have a lot of these boxes. this was when I was tossing some boxes back in 2011.

I keep them for warranty and for resale mainly

I keep mine as long as I have the part, for warranty, resale, and storage.

You guys aren't helping me feel confident on pairing stuff down because that is what I do too...well, except for the box for the $8 do-dad adapter.

until i get rid of it or past warranty

+1.

It wasn't always a habit of mine, mostly due to lack of space in my earlier years, but it's definitely a nicety to have for shipping, warranty, resale, etc. It's also a quick glance when I can't remember what model number my or my son's mobo is. However, I typically only keep the boxes for videogame consoles and core PC components (GPUs, Motherboards, PSUs, etc). Routers and peripheral packaging typically get tossed. One exception are monitor boxes - those boxes are great for moving, and while taking up a large amount of space (mine are currently somewhere in the garage), when I do need them, they're greatly appreciated.

Too long. Last month I finally decided to get rid of all the boxes of stuff I don't intend to ever sell. But most things (pc parts) I end up selling down the road, and hang onto the boxes for shipping, and because I think it looks a little better and is easier to sell when it is complete with box, manuals, etc.

But I'm running out of space.

If it's something I can eventually resell or need to keep specific accessories for not to get mixed up with others I keep the box - or with TVs (edit: monitors as well as mentioned above) in case I move (not anymore but old habits with that one) or give it away to someone - TV easier and safer to move in the box

As often as I sell and trade hardware, I keep all the boxes. It has alway come in handy. I also think people like having the original packaging.

If it is not technology related, I do not keep the box.

All boxes forever; unless it is huge like an appliance or subwoofer box. You know, I might need them one day. The smaller boxes actually become part of the decoration and the big ones can be used as shelves. Single here. Not sure any significant other would put up with such BS.

I keep the boxes for as long as I have the item. All of a sudden old SSDs and DDR4 ram have value again and I have been able to ship them to friends in the original packaging.

My last move, very recently, I had every box for every TV in the house, and I am glad I did. It made moving those much easier. I threw all those away this time. I do not plan to ever move again.

On smaller hardware that is in use, I keep every box for every system part or system for resale or RMA instances.

It depends on what it is. I usually throw away the box for fairly cheap stuff like HDD, SSD, cheap NIC etc. after 3-6 months as it is unlikely to fail after that period of time. Boxes for more expensive add on cards, GPU and motherboards are kept until the component has moved on to someone else, while monitor boxes are kept for at least 1-2 years and until I have to pay for the repairs in the case of OLED monitors.

I do keep boxes for memory, clam shells for CPU etc. as they take up very little space and are invaluable if I need to ship it back or store it. E.g. had to ship back some ram sticks around 2 years ago and was much easier to ship it in the original packaging, then trying to safely ship it in anti-static bags.
